Job Description
The Public Works Department is seeking a Street Maintenance Worker to work as part of a team performing various manual and semiskilled tasks in the installation, maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs, drainage systems and road rights-of-way.
Examples of Duties:
- Assisting with public works installation, maintenance and repair projects such as asphalt and concrete; operating equipment; performing a variety of unskilled and semiskilled work.
- Assist with storm water maintenance repairs.
- Performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks as a member of a crew.
- Assists with mowing grass; helps pick up trash and debris; trims trees; installs landscaping.
- Operates trucks and related equipment when assigned; operates a variety of hand tools and small equipment in performance of assigned tasks.
- Assists with snow and ice control and removal.
- Assists with set-up of proper work zones including putting up barricades, work signs and cones.
- Loads and unloads gravel, dirt, stone and other materials.
- Cleans equipment; greases machinery and checks fluids.
- Assists with beautification and landscaping projects.
- Moves furniture and records; assists with special events.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have:
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Must be able to exercise sound decision making, comply with workplace safety regulations, and follow written and oral instructions.
- Be able to perform manual labor for extended periods in all weather conditions.
Participation in emergency response activities and support of Town special events is expected.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Environment: Work is performed primarily in an outdoor field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; work in or around water; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain; work at heights, in confined spaces, and below ground level; incumbents may be required to respond to emergency and public calls after hours including evenings and weekends.
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to climb unusual heights and descend on ladders; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Additional Information:
The salary range shown is the hiring range. The starting salary will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills and qualifications.
