About This Position
The Certified Nurse Midwife’s (CNM) practice encompasses the independent provision of care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period; sexual and reproductive health; gynecologic health; and family planning services, including preconception care. Midwifery care also includes health promotion, disease prevention, risk assessment and management, and individualized wellness education and counseling. The CNM will provide such care in collaboration with other medical professionals to meet the needs of all patients. The care given by the CNM is guided by the medical staff delineation of privileges and hospital credentialing processes, hospital policies and procedures, applicable laws and standards, and the scope of the CNM license.
The Certified Nurse Midwife:
- Perform initial and ongoing comprehensive medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.
- Initiate appropriate treatment, perform procedures, conduct physical exams, administer medication, and perform patient education.
- Incorporates evidence-based care into clinical practice.
- Evaluates the need for immediate intervention and/or consultation, collaborative management, or referral to other health care team members as dictated by the condition of the client.
- Work cooperatively with Nursing Services personnel.
- Delegate patient care responsibilities according to the level of care required.
- CNMs practice in accord with the Standards for the Practice of Midwifery, as defined by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM).
Perform other duties as requested or assigned. May be expected to work varying hours, holidays, and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS
LICENSE / CERTIFICATION / REGISTRATION:
- Meet the requirements of NMRMC credentialing.
EXPERIENCE:
- Preferred, but not required.
