This position performs intermediate-level administrative work involving the receipt, inspection, and tracking of parts, supplies, and equipment for the Wastewater Treatment Division, including pumping stations and remote facilities. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the assigned supervisor.
  1. Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials and supplies for quantity, quality, and conformance to purchase orders. Maintain records of stock received.
  2. Prepare and package materials for return, as needed.
  3. Compare prices, lead times, and availability from multiple vendors to support purchasing decisions.
  4. Enters requisitions for materials, supplies, and equipment into designated financial system.
  5. Establish and maintain tool custody procedures to ensure accountability and control of tools, supplies, and equipment; tracks issuance and return of items.
  6. Monitor inventory levels and recommend or initiate orders to maintain adequate stock.
  7. Follow all safety, environmental, and operational protocols relevant to a wastewater treatment facility.
  8. Conduct an annual physical inventory of all stocked items, reconcile discrepancies and updates records accordingly.
  9. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the stockroom.
  10. Perform minor troubleshooting and repair small tools and equipment.
  11. Determines and sources appropriate parts or materials based on work order requests or staff input, ensuring compatibility with equipment specifications and operational needs.
  12. Receives and logs tank truck deliveries from septic haulers and other sources.
  13. Performs related duties as assigned.

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. At least six (6) months of experience in warehouse, inventory, or stockroom operations, preferably in an industrial, public works or utility setting.
  3. Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Michigan Driver’s License.
  4. Knowledge of industrial and wastewater-related materials, parts and supplies.
  5. Ability to maintain accurate records; perform basic mathematical and bookkeeping calculations related to inventory and pricing.
  6. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and documents.
  7. Proficiency with computerized inventory systems, spreadsheets, and standard Microsoft office applications.
  8. Familiarity with forklifts and pallet jacks, or ability to obtain certification to operate such equipment safely.
  9. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  10. Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with vendors, departments, and contractors.

Work Environment
Work is primarily performed in a wastewater treatment facility environment with occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, wastewater and fumes, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold and hot non-weather conditions, risk of electrical shock or exposure to gases. Protective equipment such as ; Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, respirators, masks, goggles, and gloves may be required. Work is rarely performed in high, precarious places or under vibration. This noise level is typically moderate (e.g. business office with typing and/or computer printers, light traffic) with occasional proximity to moving mechanical parts.

Physical Demands
  • Occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and rarely up to 100 pounds of force.
  • Regular use of computer keyboard.
  • Occasional standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, and fine motor work.
  • Occasional driving of city vehicles
  • Standard vision, hearing , and the ability to detect hazardous orders required.
  • Clear vocal communication for expressing ideas is essential.
