This role helps drive mission-critical operations for our Office of Refugee Resettlement programs. You’ll support a process that protects children, families, and caregivers while upholding compliance standards.
The mission of CPLC's Office of Refugee Resettlement is to promote the health, well-being, and stability of refugees, unaccompanied alien children, and other eligible individuals and families, through culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based services. Our vision is for all new arrivals to be welcomed with equitable, high-quality services and resources so they can maximize their potential.
HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT IN THIS ROLE?
As a Background Check Specialist, you ensure suitability standards are met and that federal, state, and organizational requirements are followed. Your work protects children and supports our commitment to safety and compliance in every placement.
You will:
Coordinate and document all required background checks and follow-up actions according to ORR policies.
Assist in investigation processes, review documentation, and resolve discrepancies.
Conduct quality assurance checks to verify files are complete, accurate, and submission-ready.
Monitor deadlines and submit required documentation within critical timeframes.
Maintain organized records to support reporting and compliance audits.
Collaborate with program leadership, HR, and ORR representatives to ensure suitability standards are upheld.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 3 years of employment experience, preferably in compliance, human resources, or administrative coordination.
Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel; experience with Smartsheets preferred.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Must successfully complete ORR required background and pre-employment medical clearances
