About This Position
Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) is currently seeking a Research Analyst with experience conducting quantitative and/or spatial analysis. THDA is a governmental subsidiary of the State of Tennessee.
A typical workstream for a research analyst might include assisting with program evaluations, assisting on long-term research projects, or completing ad-hoc analytic requests from agency leaders and external stakeholders. The tasks associated with these workstreams include cleaning and modifying administrative data, developing findings using descriptive analyses. conducting literature reviews and benchmark analyses, writing memos and white papers, and/or designing and analyzing surveys. The tools you may use to develop novel research and data products include R, Stata, and/or ArcGIS.
The successful candidate is a data and research leader who expresses curiosity and operates with a sense of entrepreneurialism in their work. The candidate interrogates the causal mechanisms of outcomes and focuses on the policy implications of the findings. They approach tasks with an eye for detail and take great pride in the quality of their work products. They are also able to communicate clearly the findings of their research to a variety of audiences in writing and orally.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in the social sciences, public administration, or closely related field including at least one upper division or graduate course in statistics, qualitative research, or a discipline-specific research methodology is preferred.
Two years of related experience required, including one or more of the following: conducting program evaluations, quantitative analysis of data using R, Stata or a comparable analytic software, or spatial analysis using ArcGIS.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas is preferred: housing finance; real estate market analysis; municipal finance; urban planning; community development; construction or design (including energy efficient construction); or local government policy (property taxes and assessment, zoning, etc.)
KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND COMPETENCIES:
Ability to write professional and technical reports, involving combinations of maps, graphs, charts, tables and text, for diverse audiences.
Keen attention to detail and accuracy as well as a high level of organization to handle multiple priorities and consistently meet established deadlines.
Exercises good judgment in evaluating complex situations.
