Food Service Assistant at SOUTH SUBURBAN COUNCIL – East Hazel Crest, Illinois

About the Role:

The Food Service Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring that all food service operations run smoothly and efficiently at The South Suburban Council. This position is responsible for supporting the preparation, serving, and cleanup of meals, contributing to a positive dining experience for all. The Food Service Assistant will work closely with kitchen manager to maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene. Ultimately, the Food Service Assistant helps to create a welcoming environment that promotes health and well-being through quality food service.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a food service or customer service role.

Preferred Qualifications:

• ServeSafe Certification, or equivalent.
• Experience working in a healthcare or behavioral health kitchen facility.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation and serving of meals in accordance with established menus and dietary guidelines.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and dining areas, including washing dishes and sanitizing surfaces.
• Support kitchen staff in inventory management, including receiving and storing food supplies.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and protocols to ensure a safe dining experience.

Skills:

The required skills for this position include strong communication abilities, which are essential for interacting with customers and team members effectively. Attention to detail is crucial in maintaining food safety standards and ensuring that meals are prepared and served correctly. Time management skills are also important, as the Food Service Assistant must efficiently handle multiple tasks during busy service periods. Proven experience, demonstrated by having earned a Food Handler's Certificate, enhance the candidate's ability to contribute to a safe and compliant food service environment. Overall, a combination of these skills ensures that the Food Service Assistant can provide high-quality service and support to both the kitchen staff and clients.

Schedule:

Part Time 1:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Shift will include Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday each week.

Additional hours may become awarded with good attendance, accuracy of work and good availability when requested to cover.

Pay:

$15-$18/hour

Advancement is earned with time in the organization, demonstrated mastery of skills taught in the kitchen and positive client ratings.
