About This Position

Position Description:

Under general direction, the Recreation Coordinator of Programs/Special Events performs a variety of professional and administrative work in planning, developing, directing, and implementing a year-round city-wide recreation program and special events for preschool, youth, teens, adults and senior adults, including supervision of all childcare within the Recreation Center.

Position Responsibilities: 60.00% - Develops and oversees year-round recreational programs; oversees all child care within the Recreation Center; plans, coordinates, organizes, oversees, schedules, and implements camps, programs and special events for preschool and youth; manages facilities as scheduled; evaluates and revises programs based on interest and attendance; takes inventory and orders materials; supervises classes, workshops, and activities for persons engaged in recreation programs and co-sponsored programs; maintains records and compiles and prepares reports. 15.00% - Manages and supervises all assigned employees (e.g., schedules and assigns tasks; interviews job applicants; recommends the hiring of job applicants; recommends discipline; recommends and adjusts pay assignments; evaluates performance; receives employee complaints; approves the approval of leave requests; attends or participates in meetings in which policy questions are reviewed or discussed; develops and implements policy; recommends policy changes; has access to other employees personnel files; has access to financial data used in monitoring organization revenue/income); trains and motivates assigned staff. 10.00% - Serves as liaison with Parks and Recreation and other departments in all community events; promotes the department to other community organizations, boards, and associations; promotes public awareness of the program through fliers, brochures, presentations, social media posts, media events, and news releases; responds to public inquiries about programs via telephone or e-mail and solves patron complaints; updates and maintains the citys recreation website and social media platforms. 5.00% -

May assist and volunteer for special events and activities held within the parks and recreation department; may serve as back-up for the front desk. Serves as Recreation Center Manager on Duty during assigned times.

Attends meetings and serves on committees, as directed; attends training and seminars, as directed.

Maintains required licensure or certification, if any.

Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable Public Employment Risk Reduction Program (PERRP) safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

Demonstrates regular, predictable and punctual attendance.

5.00% - Prepares capital and operating budgets and makes recommendations; records and monitors departmental expenditures and income to ensure compliance with budget; provides ongoing financial activity information and reports as necessary. 5.00% - Performs other duties as assigned.
