Day Services Assistant at Vodec – Council Bluffs, Iowa

Vodec is seeking Direct Support Professional staff to join our Adult Transition Program for students with intellectual disabilities. You will assist in the supervision and care of students with disabilities in a variety of instructional settings, including general education and work/community settings. Available Position:

• Full-time; 40 hours per week
• Monday-Friday 7:30 am to 3:30 pm
• Wage: $17.50 per hour
• Hiring Bonus: $1,500 (paid in three increments)

You will be responsible in assisting assist students develop skills necessary for daily living, access community resources, applying for community employment as act as a job coach for students at a community-based job site.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Promote and encourage community integration and socialization opportunities in a positive manner.
• Support and enrich the lives of individuals
• Support personal goals
• Assist students develop skills necessary for daily living including practical money management, cooking nutrition, health and safety.
• Assist students to access community resources and activities.
• Assist students in applying for community employment.
• Act as a job coach for students at a community-based job site.
• Assist individuals to gain knowledge and confidence in life skills
• Teach skills to expand a person’s independence
• Ensure all needs are addressed in a respectful manner with dignity and personal choice
• Complete and maintain required documentation and trainings

Requirements:

• Must be at least 19 years of age
• Completion of High School Diploma or GED
• Possess a valid driver's license and current auto insurance
• Pass all background checks
• On the job training
• Compassionate and patient demeanor
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent in-person and electronic communication skills and interpersonal skills
