About This Position

About the Role:

The Body Tech plays a critical role in maintaining and restoring the structural integrity and appearance of transportation vehicles within the warehousing and transportation industry. This position focuses on repairing, replacing, and refinishing vehicle body parts to ensure safety, functionality, and aesthetic standards are met. The Body Tech collaborates closely with maintenance teams and supervisors to diagnose damage, estimate repair costs, and execute high-quality repairs efficiently. Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are paramount to prevent future issues and maintain compliance with industry regulations. Ultimately, the Body Tech ensures that vehicles are roadworthy, visually appealing, and contribute to the overall operational efficiency of the transportation fleet.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as an auto body technician or similar role in vehicle repair.
  • Knowledge of vehicle body repair techniques, tools, and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification from a recognized automotive body repair program (e.g., I-CAR, ASE).
  • Experience working with commercial trucks, trailers, or fleet vehicles.
  • Familiarity with computerized estimating and repair tracking software.
  • Welding certification or experience with advanced metal fabrication techniques.
  • Strong understanding of paint mixing and application technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect vehicle bodies to identify damage, corrosion, or wear and determine appropriate repair methods.
  • Remove damaged parts and replace or repair panels, frames, and other structural components using welding, sanding, and other techniques.
  • Apply primers, paints, and finishes to restore vehicle surfaces to original or improved condition.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to schedule repairs minimizing vehicle downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and time spent on each job to support inventory and budgeting processes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations during all repair and refinishing activities.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to assess damage and verify repair quality before vehicle return.

Skills:

The Body Tech utilizes technical skills daily to assess and repair vehicle damage accurately, employing tools such as welders, grinders, and paint sprayers. Strong problem-solving abilities enable the technician to determine the most effective repair methods while minimizing costs and downtime. Communication skills are essential for coordinating with team members and documenting repair processes clearly.
