Our Nurse Extern Program is designed for anyone currently enrolled in a nursing program.

Job Summary
To provide direct, basic patient care activities under the guidance and direction of a Registered Nurse. To provide care and cleaning of specific equipment, stocking of supplies and equipment and the transportation of patients, supplies and equipment.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
• Acts as a patient advocate and upholds patient rights
• Assures all patients are correctly identified prior to providing and/or documenting
• Documents in a clear and legible manner
• Recognizes and integrates patient special needs and individualizes care
• Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients, family and significant others
• while providing care
• Communicates & provides care consistent with age & developmental needs of
• patient
• Communicates & provides care consistent with cultural & spiritual needs of patient
• Communicates change in patient's condition to all applicable individuals; documents
• appropriately
• Adheres to infection control standards specific to patient care

Minimum Requirements
• Enrolled in a Nursing Program
• Students must be in good standing as indicated by their institution
• BLS through the American Heart Association
• Nursing student with at least 2 (two) Clinical Rotations in a hospital setting
• Intermediate computer skills, excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods with the ability to lift, push and pull

Commitment Requirements
• 36 hours per week commitment during the summer months (June/July/August)
• 24 hours per month commitment in non-summer months
• Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends
