About This Position
Position Summary
The HR Generalist serves as a front-line HR resource for employees and managers across a defined client group or site. This role handles a broad scope of HR functions including employee relations, leave administration, policy interpretation, onboarding, and HR compliance. The ideal candidate is a composed, knowledgeable HR professional who can balance employee advocacy with organizational risk management — and isn't afraid to make a difficult call.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary HR point of contact for a population of 200–400 employees and their managers
Conduct thorough, objective workplace investigations involving harassment, misconduct, policy violations, and interpersonal conflicts
Administer and interpret FMLA, ADA, state leave laws, and company leave policies in compliance with federal and local regulations
Partner with managers on performance management processes including PIPs, corrective actions, and terminations
Support the onboarding experience and ensure new employees are set up for success from day one
Interpret and consistently apply HR policies, escalating ambiguous situations to HR leadership or legal as appropriate
Maintain confidential employee records in compliance with recordkeeping requirements
Monitor changes in employment law and recommend policy or process updates accordingly
Assist with benefits administration, open enrollment support, and leave tracking
Contribute to HR projects including engagement surveys, manager training, and process improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
3+ years of HR Generalist or HR Business Partner experience
Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations from intake through resolution
Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, Title VII, and applicable state employment laws
Experience advising managers on performance management and employee relations matters
Strong documentation practices and attention to detail
Ability to maintain objectivity and confidentiality in sensitive situations
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build credibility across levels
Preferred Qualifications
SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent HR certification
Experience supporting hourly or multi-site employee populations
Familiarity with HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday, ADP, UKG)
Prior experience working with employment counsel on complex employee relations matters
