Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive Purchaser to support our operations by sourcing raw materials, components, and supplies essential to our manufacturing processes. This role is critical to ensuring material availability, cost efficiency, and supplier performance. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where collaboration and problem-solving are key.
What You’ll Do
Purchasing & Inventory Coordination
You will be responsible for monitoring and effectively managing purchasing and inventory activities on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, including:
- Monitor material usage and run daily material requirement reports; validate physical counts as needed
- Identify procurement challenges and collaborate cross-functionally to develop effective solutions
- Optimize packaging inventory levels while partnering closely with inventory planning, sales, and operations teams
- Stay current on purchasing trends, materials, and supplier best practices
- Review aging or slow-moving inventory and evaluate opportunities for quantity discounts
- Manage and negotiate supplier costs, quality standards, and delivery performance to ensure strong value and on-time availability
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Support manufacturing practices that align with Pelton Shepherd Industries’ vision and operational priorities
- Partner with operations to drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance quality, efficiency, and production yields
What You Bring
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and customer-service abilities
- Professionalism, tact, and ethical judgment when working with vendors and internal teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines consistently
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and inventory management software
Education & Experience
- Coursework in purchasing and/or inventory control management preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of purchasing or buying experience
Physical Requirements
This role involves a combination of office and operational activities, including regular talking, hearing, and visual focus, as well as occasional standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs., and equipment-assisted pushing or pulling.
