Founded in 1953 to meet the needs of children with cerebral palsy and their families, Pillar Care has steadily grown and now delivers life-affirming services to infants, children, adults and their families throughout northern New Jersey through 27 program locations. Pillar Care provides specialized programs to meet a wide range of educational, therapeutic, and social needs of people with various disabilities. The agency serves over 1,650 families each year and employs 700 full- and part-time employees.
Position Overview
Pillar High School is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Technician to support and supervise daily operations by ensuring the school building and grounds remain safe, clean, and fully functional. This role plays an important part in creating a supportive environment for students with disabilities and the staff who serve them.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance on facility systems including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general repairs
- Complete daily inspections to identify and address any building or equipment issues
- Respond to work orders and emergency repair needs in a timely manner
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of classrooms, restrooms, offices, and shared spaces
- Assist with room setups and equipment moves for school functions and events
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and ADA standards
- Collaborate with outside vendors when necessary
- Track maintenance supplies and report inventory needs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in building maintenance or related field
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions
- Valid NJ Driver’s License and reliable transportation
- Must pass background check and required health screenings
- Trade school training or relevant certifications (Black Seal and pool certification) (Preferred)
- Experience working in a school or care facility environment (Preferred)
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary: $52,000.00 annually
Pillar Care takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s work
experience and qualification as well as the scope of the role,
complexity and external market and internal market value when
determining salary level.
