We are seeking one sessional instructor to teach EDCO 3100 - Introduction to Humanities Pedagogy, from June 29 - July 3, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 am to 2:20 pm.
CALENDAR DESCRIPTION
This course provides teacher candidates with an opportunity to develop empathy, effective communication and listening skills to build respectful relationships. Teacher candidates understand their role as professionals, including ethical considerations in teaching and the teacher's role as a reflective practitioner. Teacher candidates understand the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion within educational settings. Teacher candidates show an initial understanding of an educator's role in living and promoting anti-oppressive and anti-racist values. Teacher candidates also use prior knowledge and learnings from class to develop a teaching philosophy reflecting the professional standards for BC educators.
- A Bachelor of Education is required
- A Master of Education is required
- Recent successful experience as a K-12 teacher strongly preferred and three years successful full time classroom experience is required
- Advanced knowledge of the subject area is required
- Experience and excellent understanding of child development and how this relates to elementary or secondary schools is required
- Previous successful post-secondary school teaching experience is preferred
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills is required
- Proven skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect are required
- Demonstrated experience in integrating Aboriginal knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required
- Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required
- Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA10), is required
