About This Position
Reports To: Shift Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Union Status: UAW Local 70 – Bargaining Unit Position
Position Summary
The Press Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of assigned metal forming equipment, including stamping presses, to produce parts that meet quality and production standards. This position requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and adherence to established safety and quality procedures. The Press Operator ensures compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and collective bargaining agreement provisions while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operate metal forming equipment, including stamping presses, in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
Load raw materials and remove finished parts manually or with approved assistive devices.
Monitor press operation to ensure proper functioning and product quality.
Inspect work pieces using measuring devices and visual inspection methods to verify conformance to specifications and identify defects.
Perform basic troubleshooting and report equipment malfunctions to supervision or maintenance.
Maintain required production records and quality documentation.
Maintain housekeeping standards in assigned work area (5S compliance, if applicable).
Follow all OSHA safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and company safety policies.
Comply with all applicable provisions of the UAW Local 70 collective bargaining agreement.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to operate industrial machinery.
Ability to read and interpret work instructions, blueprints, or production specifications.
Ability to use basic measuring instruments (calipers, gauges, etc.).
Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
Ability to work effectively in a team-based, union manufacturing environment.
Ability to follow safety procedures consistently.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling of materials (weight range to be defined, e.g., up to 35 lbs.).
Repetitive hand and arm movements.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, vibration, and varying temperatures.
