Job Description

Work involves performing land surveys and monitoring the work of survey filed crews and office staff. An individual in this position functions in the capacity of a technical surveyor, reviewing and processing survey plans, tentative plats, final plats, sketch and legal descriptions, right-of-way deeds, etc., and related duties.

An incumbent in this position works under the supervision of the Senior Professional Surveyor and Mapper to review plans, specifications, and other documents. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate technical and/or administrative staff. Administrative direction may be received from one or more of the following, the Senior Professional Surveyor and Mapper, Assistant and/or Deputy Director, Department Director, or designee.

Essential Functions

• Reviews and processes survey plans, tentative plats, and final plats.
• Prepares and reviews right-of-way deeds of dedication.
• Reviews sketches and legal descriptions, and prepares legal descriptions.
• Performs complex mathematical calculations and reviews survey field notes, ensuring necessary corrections.
• Calculates benchmarks elevations circuits and performs monument lines calculations.
• Filing, maintaining and updating records such as municipal atlas sheets, plats, right-of-way deeds, easements, and survey books.
• Assists in coordinating the work of technical and clerical staff.
• Provides support to office and field survey crews.
• Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

• One (1) year, or more, of experience in land surveying field work as a party chief.
• One (1) year, or more, of experience in land surveying office work calculating boundaries and drafting survey drawings.

Certification (Desired but not required)

• Certified Surveyor Technician, from the national certification program for survey technicians sponsored by the National Society of Professional Surveyors. https://cstnsps.com/
