Position Summary

The Preop/Postop RN is responsible for the patient experience in Preop/Postop
Passion for communicating to patients with warmth, ability to explain procedures, medications, and physician instructions, remove sutures, change dressings, and record medical details

Essential Duties/Functions

Rooms, performs, and chaperones preop and postop appointments
Accurately records patient medical histories and symptoms
Takes and records blood pressure, temperature, heart rate
Observes postop patients under treatment to identify progress, side-effects of medication, etc.
Monitors patients conduction including fluid intake and output and compose patient charts
Conduct preop testing including blood samples and EKGs
Postop suture removal, dressing changes, and wound care
Preop measurements for stage 1 liposuction compression garment order
Drain seromas once trained by surgeon
Start and remove IVs as needed
Provide emotional and psychological support when needed
Communicate with patients family to provide advice, comfort, and release instructions
Update information in patient chart
Schedules follow-up appointments
Be friendly, courteous, and sympathetic when it comes to working with patients
Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment per OSHA standards
Assist with taking standardized photos
Assist with unpackaging and restocking inventory
Check sharps boxes and change any that are full, empty all linen/biohazard bags, logs, wheeling patients
Circulate in surgery, scrub into cases, launch in Prean, discharge from PACU, flip/set up the OR, clean/sterilize instruments when needed if properly trained
Maintains all necessary licensing/certification
Complete all mandatory training
Follow all state, federal and/or local health and safety rules, laws, and regulations
*Additional job duties as assigned

Education

Current RN Michigan License
Must currently be BLS and ACLS certified or obtain your certifications within 30 days of employment (reimbursement is available)

Experience

Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience as a RN
Experience in cosmetic surgery is a plus

Interpersonal Skills and Attributes

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient health information
Ability to focus on patient safety, teamwork, patient outcomes, patient experience and quality improvement
Strong communication skills: written and verbal and interpersonal
Microsoft Office experience
Knowledge of disease prevention
Detail and transaction oriented
Organized and able to manage time effectively
Bedside manner
Must be dependable and able to act with discretion maintaining strict levels of confidentiality
General knowledge of Internet navigation and research, email, fax transmissions, phone communication, and copy equipment
Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment
Flexible, reliable, patient-oriented, and self-motivated
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
Professional behavior/appearance required

Physical/Sensory Requirements

Ability to be active and on your feet throughout the day
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (to help assist with patients)
Corrected hearing and vision to normal range
Full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures

Schedule

Day shift
Monday to Friday
