About This Position
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Assists providers with examinations and procedures to serve the medical needs of patients with various health conditions in a professional, confidential, and caring manner. Coordinates the flow of patients, phone calls, lab work, and nurse visits to facilitate quality patient care and customer service goals.
Provides professional care within the educational background of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and in compliance with any applicable licensure/certification requirement and organization policy and procedures. Responsible for serving on the ambulatory care team for an assigned area including direct patient care as an unlicensed professional and under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP). Incorporates the primary job functions of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and other duties related to the care of patients, dependent upon the work area and/or patient populations to which they are assigned.
Reports to RN Clinic Manager. Employees holding nursing licensure will be held accountable to Nebraska nursing licensure requirements and must maintain licensure or an active Nebraska CNA.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Performs patient care and assists provider(s) with examinations and procedures to serve the medical needs of patients, as assigned.
3. *Facilitates flow of patients in accordance with appointment time to avoid delays for the provider and undue waiting for patients.
4. *Greets and rooms patients; takes vital signs, updates patient history and verifies medications prior to final approval and sign-off from the provider, and prepares patient for examination/procedures, as assigned.
5. *Rooms patients via Electronic Health Record (EHR) status indicator for outstate clinics and enters clinical documentation and results received from clinic, as assigned.
6. *Assists patients in pursuing preauthorization for PCSK9 inhibitor and other medications based on protocol, as assigned.
7. *Documents patient interactions, results, and patient questions/concerns in a timely manner.
8. *Responds to calls from patients, pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes, and other medical offices by use of telephone and computer in a timely manner, as assigned.
9. *Refers all physician telephone orders to a licensed professional.
10. *Coordinates with assigned RN to provide care that is beyond practice scope; including triage of patient follow up, patient teaching, and abnormal test result communication.
11. *Organizes medications sample storage and checks for outdates.
12. *Keeps rooms stocked, clean and ready for use; assists with ordering supplies as needed.
13. *Complies with HIPAA and maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient, family, staff, and providers.
14. *Provides care in a non-judgmental, compassionate, non-discriminatory manner remaining sensitive to the patient’s diversity, autonomy, dignity, and rights.
15. *Responds appropriately to urgent /emergent situations and maintains compliance with OSHA and safety plan.
16. Notifies RN or Clinic Manager of problems/incidents related to staff or patients in a timely manner.
17. Participates in meetings related to performance improvement, electronic health record enhancements, and day-to-day operations, as assigned.
18. Manages work hours, supplies, and other clinical costs in line with fiscal responsibility and budget.
19. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
20. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
21. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalency required. Active Nebraska Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential required. Six (6) months CNA experience preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
