Overview

The D440 SSN Payload Launch Control department is responsible for systems, hardware, test, and project engineering for the design, development, and qualification of CFE payload launch control and handling systems and components, integration and construction support of CFE and GFE payload systems, and fleet support of CFE payload systems supporting VIRGINIA, SSNX, AUKUS and other payload platforms. These systems include the Payload Support Electronics System, VIRGINIA Payload Tube, Horizontal Launch System, Internal Countermeasure Launcher, External Countermeasure Launcher, Combat Control System, and Weapons Stowage and Handling Systems. The VA Systems Integration Group is responsible for Payload Support Engineering System (PSES) system engineering, requirement development and management, system safety support, and project and task management. The group interfaces with multiple departments within Electric Boat and with external stakeholders including NAVSEA NUWC-Newport, PMS450, PMS425, and its major subcontractor Progeny Systems Company.

Project management is coordinated from within the VA Systems Integration group, centralizing the skillsets and tools required to plan, execute, monitor, control, and close projects. The candidate for this position will be responsible for monitoring and controlling project activities while also focusing on project’s earned value, manpower, scheduling, and risk management. The candidate will assist project task leads with acquiring and maintaining funding. This includes creating estimates and presenting to internal/external customer program offices for sponsorship.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Maintaining and updating the department’s task progressing sheet and Artemis activities on a weekly basis.
    • This includes coordinating with department stakeholders to progress their tasking and ensuring all activities line items are completed prior to submitting to Planning department.
  • Update the department’s task checkbook spreadsheets to ensure all hours and vendor material dollars are accurately updated on a weekly basis
  • Support with the annual call for tasking by supporting task leads with generating and maintaining the estimate spreadsheet. This also includes
    • Peer reviewing task lead estimates
    • Assisting task leads with marking up barcharts
    • Assisting task leads with completing TEFs to ensure travel and material are accurate
    • Enforcing revision control of estimate spreadsheets
  • Process all Executive Summaries for LYS Tasks under the department and debt the associated task checkbook to accurately record financial data.
  • Create and submit monthly Systems Integration Metrics Financials
  • Update and maintain the department’s Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in Data Monster including changes to supervisors or manager.
  • Support the VA Monthly SPI meeting by printing and marking up package with current week’s status prior to briefing at meeting.
  • Managing the department’s financial performance
  • Ensuring effective communication and collaboration with the department task leads and EB Program Office reps
  • Update and maintain the project’s Integrated Master Schedule using Microsoft Project to accurately track project milestones

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years experience in project support roles in a business setting

Preferred:

  • College degree
  • Degree associated with finance or project management
  • Knowledge of US Navy Combat Systems
  • Familiarity with CMMI and Systems Engineering Principles
