About This Position
Job Summary: The Design Drafter will take products from conception through final production. They will be responsible for gathering drawings and specifications, understanding material and equipment requirements and executing and process Engineering Change Orders. This position will provide production with modifications to the standard line of equipment, taking into consideration the established engineering specifications regarding size, capacities, performance and any other important requirements. This position is to act as a support role to design engineering.
Essential Duties:
- Utilize SolidWorks to perform applicable drafting work including creating and revising layout drawings and fully detailed manufacturing drawings and specifications. Follow HO Bostrom filing and naming conventions.
- Perform moderate tolerance calculations to determine required dimensional tolerances.
- Apply Structural and Strength of Material general principles to determine basic size, material, and configurations.
- Prepare or revise Bills of Materials and include necessary codes and links to fixtures and tooling.
- Work closely with Purchasing to obtain price quotes for parts.
- Work closely with Quality to ensure ISO 9001 requirements are achieved.
- Plan and execute projects ranging from minor drawing changes to support Design Engineering in designing and documenting new components and assemblies
- Create and maintain product documentation, including instructions used by manufacturing and/or customers, and document change requests.
- Work closely with Engineers, Sales, and Manufacturing to follow project scope, cost, and timing.
- Be responsible for submitting, executing, and following through with engineering change orders.
- Complete other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work within a cross functional team
- Basic knowledge of LEAN manufacturing
- Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time with competing priorities
- Basic knowledge of sheet metal, tubing, welded assemblies and molded plastics
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ERP software
Level of Independence: This position has a high degree of autonomy on a daily basis and will report to the Director of Design Engineering.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Requirements:- Associate's Degree in Mechanical Technology program or 2 years equivalent work experience
- 3D CAD knowledge
- Experience working with SolidWorks, preferred
- 3 years' work experience in a manufacturing environment, preferred
