Associate Director of Grants

In this role, you will act as a key financial steward responsible for strengthening and transforming post-award grant management across a complex nonprofit environment. You will ensure that multi-year, multi-funder grants are executed with accuracy, compliance, and strategic foresight. This position plays a critical role in reducing organizational risk while increasing operational efficiency through improved systems and processes. You will partner closely with Finance, Development, and Programs teams to bring clarity to financial operations and support mission delivery. The work combines technical grants expertise with systems thinking to eliminate manual processes and improve scalability. It is a highly collaborative and impact-driven environment where precision, structure, and proactive problem-solving are essential.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will oversee the full post-award financial lifecycle of grants, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and operational efficiency across all funding streams. You will design and strengthen financial systems and workflows that reduce manual effort, improve transparency, and support organizational scalability.

  • Manage and monitor complex, multi-year, multi-funder grants, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and organizational requirements
  • Interpret and operationalize grant agreements, including tracking allowable vs. non-allowable expenses and restricted funds
  • Develop and improve financial systems, tools, and workflows to streamline grant management and reduce operational risk
  • Partner across Finance, Development, and Program teams to ensure alignment and accurate financial reporting
  • Support audits and compliance processes while proactively identifying and addressing financial risks
  • Translate complex financial data into clear insights for internal stakeholders and leadership decision-making
Requirements

This position requires a strong foundation in nonprofit finance and grants management, combined with the ability to design and implement scalable systems in a fast-moving environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, systems-driven, and able to communicate complex financial concepts clearly across teams.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Public Administration, or related field
  • 5+ years of nonprofit finance or advanced grants management experience
  • Proven experience managing multi-year, multi-funder grant portfolios independently
  • Strong ability to interpret grant agreements and ensure financial compliance
  • Experience designing and implementing financial systems and process improvements
  • Proficiency with financial systems such as Sage Intacct and Salesforce
  • Background in audit, government funding, or nonprofit compliance strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex financial information
