About This Position
General Responsibilities:
Responsible for managing the Commercial Lending/SBA Division in order to oversee the commercial loan portfolio, provide direct and indirect commercial lending services, and ensure the efficient and effective servicing of commercial loans; developing, implementing, and achieving annual goals and objectives as established in the division's annual operating plan; ensuring the division’s compliance with operating policies and procedures and outside regulatory requirements; directly managing assigned personnel; communicating with appropriate management and staff personnel; providing periodic reports.
Essential Duties:
- Manages the Commercial Lending/SBA Division in order to oversee the commercial loan portfolio, provide direct and indirect commercial lending services, and ensure the efficient and effective servicing of commercial loans as follows:
- Jointly establishes quantitative sales objectives, with the Chief Lending Officer on an annual basis; this activity to be integrated with the business model and the Lending division’s annual marketing/sales plan.
- Solicits new commercial business from present and prospective customers; interviews applicants; maintains ongoing business relationships with present customers in order to take advantage of additional cross-selling opportunities, i.e. loans, deposits, fees, wealth management and merchant services.
- Follows trends in the market place which relate to commercial financing; maintains a current awareness of market conditions, competitive rates, and product designs, etc.
- Recommends adjustments in the product lines in terms of product design, rate, etc., as appropriate.
- Monitors all commercial lending activities in the Bank; ascertains the extent to which policies and procedures are properly followed; takes appropriate action to correct improper activities with respect to internal procedure, external regulation, etc.
- Maintains an accurate awareness of the credit quality of the portfolio and the inherent credit risk.
- Ensures the prompt and efficient delivery of commercial loan services to both external customers and bank personnel, whichever is most appropriate.
- Oversees the productive and accurate servicing of all commercial loan accounts, e.g., credit inquiries, file development and maintenance, collateral control, loan reporting, etc.
- Interfaces with the resource recovery function, as needed to assist in the collection of past-due loans and/or to protect the Bank's financial interests in a workout situation.
- Encourages the growth and professional development of commercial loan supervisors and their subordinates.
- Ensures adherence to the commercial loan underwriting standards by commercial loan officers.
- Maintains compliance with all applicable loans and regulations concerning commercial lending.
- Works closely with commercial loan officers, keeping them informed of changes in policies and procedures and ensuring that they are well-trained in the commercial lending function.
- Continually reviews journals, articles, publications, and other material to review regulatory and legal changes pertinent to the commercial lending operation and to ensure that policies and procedures comply with all applicable loans and regulations; works with the Compliance Officer in this regard also.
- Works as a member of the credit services team to identify and correct any problems relating to the lending function, e.g., customer service, internal operations, credit control procedures, etc.
- Develops, implements, and achieves annual goals and objectives as established in the Division's annual operating plan as follows:
- Allocates division resources, e.g., human, financial, etc., toward tasks required to achieve goals and objectives.
- Directs, through appropriate management and supervisory personnel, day-to-day activities in support of the divisional objectives.
- Measures effectiveness and performance of the systems and people.
- Develops resources, as appropriate, to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Assists in the development of the annual budget and adheres to budget parameters.
- Directly manages assigned personnel as follows:
- Recruits and selects new personnel as appropriate.
- Makes provisions for the proper orientation and training of new personnel.
- Reviews employee performance throughout the probationary period and on a regularly scheduled basis thereafter.
- Organizes, schedules, and distributes work among assigned personnel.
- Keeps personnel informed of pertinent policies and procedures affecting the division and/or their jobs; creates an atmosphere in which upward communication from employees is encouraged.
- Administers personnel policies and procedures as established by bank policy.
- Communicates with the Chief Lending Officer, other managers, and appropriate staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities.
- Provides periodic reports to the Chief Lending Officer and other groups as required throughout the Bank.
Ancillary Duties:
- Actively represents the Bank in public relations and other related community activities.
- Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed depending upon individual circumstances.

Requirements:Basic Qualifications:
Education/Training: A B.S. or B.A. degree in a related field of study normally required; specialized bank commercial lending education and training.
Skill(s): Must demonstrate strong communication skills; exceptional interpersonal relations, and sales skills; thorough knowledge of current lending regulations; thorough knowledge of the features and benefits of all bank commercial loan products and services; working knowledge of bank operating policies and procedures which impact commercial loan services; demonstrated management and supervisory skills.
Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years' experience in related positions normally required.
