About This Position
Description:
- Assist in dismantling, sorting, and decommissioning wind turbine components including towers, nacelles, blades, gearboxes, and generators for recycling, repurposing, or disposal.
- Properly handle, transport, and dispose of materials in accordance with environmental and safety guidelines.
- Identify and separate metals, electronics, fiberglass, and other recyclable materials.
- Operate tools and equipment for cutting, grinding, and compacting materials for transport.
- Work alongside the Traveling Lead Technician and project team to execute site-specific decommissioning plans.
- Follow proper rigging, lifting, and crane-signal techniques to safely remove and transport large components such as blades, tower sections, and nacelles.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Assist in the inspection and documentation of dismantled components.
- Perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical isolation prior to component removal.
- Adhere to OSHA and company safety regulations on all job sites.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and hazard assessments.
- Climb wind turbine towers and work at heights up to 300+ feet using fall protection systems.
- Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including harnesses, hard hats, and safety glasses.
- Assist in ensuring that all recycling processes meet environmental compliance standards.
- 1–3 years of experience in wind energy, heavy construction, industrial demolition, or a related field; wind turbine decommissioning experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of wind turbine mechanical and electrical systems, including hydraulics, generators, and control panels.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, rigging hardware, and basic welding/cutting equipment (oxy-acetylene, plasma).
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and at significant heights.
- Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs, climbing ladders and towers, and standing for extended periods.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Willingness to travel extensively (up to 100%) to project sites across the U.S., including extended stays.
- Willingness to continuously learn about new technologies and industry practices related to wind energy.
