Working under the Director of Creative and Communication, this role is responsible for translating creative direction into excellent design work across print, motion, and environmental spaces – while developing and empowering a team of Design Specialists to do the same.

This role requires a versatile creative leader who can move fluidly between high creative ownership on some projects and execution of the established vision on others. The Design Manager is both a maker and a manager – equally invested in producing great work and in building a team that does the same.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide daily leadership, direction, and support to the Design Specialist team.
  • Develop team members’ skills, creative instincts, and professional growth through consistent feedback and coaching.

  • Manage project assignments, workloads, and deadlines to ensure the team operates efficiently and sustainably.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the team’s day-to-day creative questions and decisions.

Design Execution & Creative Leadership

  • Lead and produce design work across print, motion graphics, and environmental/physical spaces.
  • Adapt creative ownership to each project – taking high creative initiative when given latitude, and executing faithfully within the Director’s creative vision when direction is set.
  • Review and approve design work produced by the team, ensuring quality, consistency, and brand alignment before delivery.
  • Bring creative problem-solving and fresh thinking to every project, regardless of scope or scale.
  • Manage the full design production process from concept through final delivery.

Brand Stewardship

  • Steward and maintain the Long Hollow brand standards and visual identity guidelines as established by the Creative Director.
  • Ensure all design work produced by the team consistently reflects Long Hollow’s brand, values, and aesthetic.
  • Serve as the team’s primary resource for brand questions, maintaining clarity and consistency across all deliverables.
  • Flag brand inconsistencies or emerging needs to the Creative Director and help implement any updates to guidelines.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Communications Manager and Film Manager to ensure visual consistency across all platforms and touchpoints.
  • Partner with ministry teams and internal stakeholders to understand project needs and deliver design solutions that serve them well.
  • Support larger campaigns and initiatives led by the Creative Director, contributing design leadership and team capacity as needed.
