Job Purpose

The Senior Content Strategist is responsible for the management of key nursing and medical titles and continued expansion of the portfolio across formats. Specific topic areas include professional nursing, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Oncology, and Hale’s Medications & Mothers’ MilkTM, which is a market-leading online resource. The Senior Content Strategist will utilize an enterprising spirit to support the execution of the portfolio strategy collaboratively across the organization; be responsible for the identification of content targets, acquisition of content, and oversight of publishing processes from concept to market. This experienced professional will provide leadership on new product initiatives, drive product extensions for key brands, and identify opportunities to optimize use and increase return on investment for existing content. The Senior Content Strategist will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop content that meets customer needs, fuels products and platforms, and fosters growth objectives.


Responsibilities

• Develop, manage, and execute a media-neutral content strategy that supports the portfolio strategy, meets customer needs, and achieves content currency objectives.

• Utilize a market-informed and data-driven approach to identify content targets and commission content across markets.

• Assume direct oversight and responsibility for key brands and authors, setting the strategic course and product development and extension plans.

• Develop, refine, and edit content in collaboration with the author team, providing feedback and direction in regular meetings.

• Present titles and strategy to key internal stakeholders and participate in bi-annual Sales Meetings.

• Collaborate with Sales and Marketing colleagues to promote individual products and develop promotional strategies for larger product lists.

• Develop and maintain a content pipeline, annual frontlist, and long-term list architectures; provide regular reporting to stakeholders and ensure data management and integrity.

• Develop and monitor project budgets and establish contractual terms that align with the approved financial plan.

• Negotiate author and product agreements that are consistent with company standards.

• Maintain strong knowledge of markets and competitive product offerings to inform content strategy, product development, and competitive positioning; conduct customer, market, and competitive research as required.

• Utilize product and user data to inform strategy for existing and future content.

• Develop a network of high-quality contacts, including potential authors, presenters, and reviewers; current and emerging thought leaders; faculty, practitioners, students, and test-takers.

• Collaborate with content development/operations and production teams to ensure on-time delivery of content according to quality and product specifications.

• Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to ensure that brand messaging, marketing plans, and competitive positioning align with portfolio strategy; participate in sales meetings and industry conferences.

• Guide and help manage the Assistant Editor/Content Coordinator to fulfill their role.


Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree

• 5+ years of experience in mid- to senior-level content strategy/acquisitions in the publishing, e-learning, or educational services fields, preferably in medicine, nursing, or healthcare

• Experience developing and executing content strategy for digital products

• Experience developing, refining, and editing content in collaboration with author teams

• Ability to identify appropriate sales channels and collaborate with internal sales contacts on potential opportunities; sales channels could include digital licensing, institutional, and industry partners

• Experience presenting product proposals and strategies to high-level internal stakeholders and serving as the point person for internal and external customers and collaborators

• Experience managing high-profile authors and editorial teams and complex, market-leading, and high-revenue products

• Understanding of the dynamics of professional certification and higher education markets in nursing and medical markets, the healthcare competitive landscape, and market drivers preferred

• Highly collaborative and skilled at influencing and building strong internal and external relationships

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated business acumen

• Superior organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines

• Proactive approach, can-do work ethic, and high degree of accountability appropriate for a fast-paced, growing company

• Highly proficient in a Microsoft Windows environment (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with content management systems and data analytics tools preferred


Physical Requirements

This is a hybrid position and requires the ability to come into the office as needed. This position requires occasional travel and the ability to drive and/or fly to destinations as required (~10% of time).
