Senior FOIA Contractor - REMOTE
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior FOIA Contractor. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting a government client with complex FOIA processing requirements. Your expertise will ensure that all processes adhere strictly to regulatory and policy frameworks while mentoring junior staff. By conducting detailed reviews and applying exemptions accurately, you will help reduce backlogs and improve processing timelines, maintaining the integrity of sensitive information throughout every FOIA request lifecycle.
Accountabilities- Conduct advanced FOIA analysis, including detailed review of responsive records for sensitivity, exemption applicability, and releasability.
- Apply FOIA exemptions with expert-level accuracy and document justification in accordance with FOIA guidelines.
- Perform complex redactions, quality reviews, and compliance checks prior to Government approval.
- Lead or support the processing of Simple, Complex, Expedited, and Backlogged FOIA requests.
- Conduct or validate searches for responsive records across multiple program offices as required.
- Prepare formal correspondence, including acknowledgment letters and final responses.
- Contribute to backlog reduction efforts by supporting rolling releases.
- Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and quality feedback to Junior and Journeyman FOIA Contractors.
- Maintain accurate, timely entries in FOIA tracking systems.
- Minimum of three (3) years of FOIA request processing experience within the past 48 months.
- Expert-level knowledge of FOIA exemptions, the Privacy Act, and federal information-handling requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to perform and review redactions for sensitive or protected information.
- Experience reviewing and validating searches and drafting high-quality FOIA correspondence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to support compliance with statutory timelines and quality assurance standards.
- Bachelor's degree preferred; additional FOIA experience may substitute for formal education.
- FOIA-related training or certifications preferred.
- Must be able to meet Public Trust background investigation requirements.
