About This Position

POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Professor of Nursing position in the School of Nursing is designed to support the academic mission of the institution by providing high-quality instruction, mentorship, and leadership within the nursing program. This role carries workload credit and is integral to the development and delivery of curriculum that prepares students for professional nursing practice. The faculty member will bring an expertise in medical-surgical nursing. A background contributing to the advancement of pediatrics, maternal newborn or psychiatric and behavioral health education preferred. The faculty member will provide instruction in nursing courses ensuring a comprehensive and integrated approach to clinical education. Through teaching, service, and scholarship, this position fosters student success, promotes evidence-based practice, and supports the continuous improvement of nursing education.

Responsibilities:
As outlined in the Faculty Staff Handbook, MSBN Minimum Standard for Accredited Programs of Professional Nursing, and/or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education Accreditation Standards:
• Nursing faculty shall have responsibility for developing, implementing, and assessing the nursing program.
• Teach theory lab, and/or clinical practicum as determined by workload needs.
• Assist with simulation as requested
• Assist with the identification of potential clinical sites.
• Participate with course coordinator in developing, implementing, and assessing nursing course(s).
• Create an environment in the classroom and health care agency which facilitates student learning (e.g, student orientation, evaluation of clinical sites, student evaluation, promote critical thinking and clinical reasoning).
• Serve as a professional role model for students.
• Motivate students to think, to question, and to critically analyze.
• Develop and utilize a variety of techniques and tools to evaluate student achievement and progress based upon the course and program outcomes.
o Maintain curriculum integrity (e.g., ensure concepts and exemplars assigned to the course are addressed).
o Familiar with and responsible for regulatory and accrediting policies and guidelines.
o Serve as academic mentor.
o Post and honor scheduled office hours.
o Select reference books and periodicals for library holdings and submit them to the Chair of the School of Nursing as requested
o Participate in faculty governance activities including university, school and faculty meetings and committees.
o Submit required documentation for evaluation and reports.
o Participate in faculty searches.
o Participate in budget prioritization/requests.
o Each year a faculty member(s) may be assigned to various roles including but not limited to:
 ASNO Advisor
 Pinning Advisor
 Orientation/ Commitment Ceremony Coordinator(s)
 Social media lead for School of Nursing
 Student mentor program coordinator
 Course Coordinator. This role generally entails the coordination of course logistics. Faculty performance issues should be addressed with the Chair of the School of Nursing.
• Develop, plan, implement, and assess course(s) (in collaboration with course faculty).
• Prepare course syllabi in accordance with established guidelines (in collaboration with course faculty). Select textbooks for course (in collaboration with course faculty
• Provide textbook ordering information to office manager.
• Support course faculty
• Maintain intent of course concepts.
• Collaborate with faculty to ensure consistency in grading and application of policies.
• Prepare end of course report (In collaboration with course faculty) and submit to faculty/Chair.
• Assume responsibility for student issues relating to the course. Collaborate with faculty for solutions to issues.
• Maintain appropriate records needed for university, MSBN approval, and CCNE accreditation. Include course syllabus, sample of students’ work, and course examinations.
• Clinical coordinator
• Oversight of clinical course(s) in the curriculum to support and promote consistent usage of concepts based on learning in the clinical setting.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in nursing required; Doctoral degree preferred.
• Current undisciplined license is required to practice professional nursing in Missouri.
• Academically and experientially qualified and maintain expertise in area of responsibility
• Approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing prior to appointment.
• Teaching experience is desirable, preferably in baccalaureate education.
• Current or past clinical expertise in a variety of settings.
• Knowledge of best practices in education
• Prior clinical teaching experience preferred.
• Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, community partners, and staff.
• Experience in establishing and maintaining community partnerships for practicum placements.
• Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS), such as Canvas or Blackboard, and other online teaching technologies.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a flexible work environment.
• Familiarity with accreditation processes in nursing education preferred.
• Experience teaching traditional and non-traditional students preferred.
• Ability to contribute to a climate that supports a diverse student body, serves first-generation college students, multilingual learners, and contributions to equity and social justice through their work.
