Help Improve Cantonese Voice AI (Hong Kong) at Appen Crowd – Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

AI systems still struggle to understand natural Cantonese speech, especially across real-life scenarios. In this project, you’ll help improve voice recognition by recording spoken Cantonese prompts used in smart devices.

What you'll do

Recording Task

Record a total of 200 Cantonese sentences

Content types include:

– Wake-up words

– Wake-up words + query

– Query sentences

Complete all recordings in one session (no switching speakers)

Record in a quiet environment with no background noise

Speak naturally and fluently (no word-by-word reading)

Follow different speaking speeds:

– Slow: ≤1300ms

– Normal: ~700–1100ms

– Fast: ≤600ms

Ensure accurate pronunciation (e.g., clearly distinguish similar sounds)

What you'll get

Pay: USD $0.13 per recording/message

Total task time: ~0.5–1 hour for 200 sentences

Total pay = 200 × 0.13 = $26 USD

What you'll need

Native Cantonese (Hong Kong) speaker

Must be a Hong Kong resident

Clear and standard Cantonese (HK) pronunciation

Ability to follow instructions in English

Access to a quiet recording environment

Laptop or desktop device
