About the role
- Responsible for a professional level of student support and performance duties necessary for an orderly operation of the dormitory program. This is a hourly/non-exempt SCA position. Provides safe, supportive, and predictable environment in dormitory supervision of Job Corps trainees in their daily activities, monitoring their progress in attaining performance contract goals and objectives and utilizing behavior management and intentional and consistent Core-Value-driven practices. Conducts dormitory operations in accordance with center operating policy and procedures and in accordance with operation procedures. Demonstrates on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards of: workplace relations and ethics; information management; communications; multicultural awareness; personal growth and development; career and personal planning; interpersonal skills and independent living.
What you'll do
- Inspect dorms during daytime hours and oversee work efforts of assigned WBL students.
- Perform daily student accountability checks; Escort students into dorm in emergency situations.
- Coordinate Social Development WBL activities.
- Facilitate orderly exit process as students separate from program, including but not limited to assisting terminating students in packing their personal belongings and finalizing transportation arrangements.
- Transport students to and from public transportation sites and assist with daytime emergency off Center trips.
- Coordinate shopping trips for students with special needs.
- Maintain inventory of dorm expendable supplies and order supplies.
- Operate in accordance with requirements set in the contract, PRH, guides, Standard Operating Procedures, and corporate policies.
- Complete all required training according to Job Corps and Company training schedule.
- Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals.
- Contribute to cultivation of positive Center culture which is free of harassment, discrimination, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
- Promote 6 C’s of Positive Youth Development by treating students respectfully as adults and developing positive student relationships.
- Promote development of Career Success Standards by modeling expected behaviors, mentoring students and fellow staff to aid in their growth, and monitoring student behavior for accountability and recognition.
- Provide quality customer service to students, staff, and other Center customers.
- Participate in student employability programs and activities.
- Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps Zero Tolerance Policy.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area, adhering to all safety guidelines.
- May assist with other tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- One - two years’ experience in a related field such as counseling, education, social work, rehabilitation, or vocational guidance.
- Associate’s degree in a behavioral health field from an accredited college or university a plus.
- Able to complete all mandated training requirements per government/management directives.
- Able to read email daily and reply to messages based on urgency/importance in a timely manner.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
Additional Requirements:
Must be able to compose descriptive reports; use appropriate techniques to implement programmatic activities; verbally direct individuals and groups; remedy dysfunctional behavior; intervene with students in crisis with aggression control/safe physical management restraint techniques; successfully complete mandated training courses. Knowledge of methods needed to instill appropriate behavior as well as work and study habits in adolescent students, housekeeping techniques, and management. Ability to read, comprehend, interpret, communicate, and execute instructions fluently in English. Ability to effectively relate to trainee population. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Position requires an ability to operate office equipment. In addition, individual must be able to interact with team members and maintain an effective working relationship with all facility staff and departments.
The pay range for this role is:
19 - 21 USD per hour(St. Louis Main)
