Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Duties:
· Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical history, physical examinations, and review of diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT, X-ray).
· Develop and implement individualized treatment plans utilizing a combination of interventional procedures, pharmacological management, and physical rehabilitation.
· Perform interventional pain management procedures, including but not limited to:
· Epidural steroid injections
· Nerve blocks (peripheral and sympathetic)
· Facet joint injections/medial branch blocks
· Radiofrequency ablation (RFA)
· Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) trials/permanent implants
· Intrathecal pump management
· Vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty (preferred but not required)
· Prescribe and manage medications responsibly, including opioid therapy when clinically indicated, in compliance with state regulations and CDC guidelines.
· Interpret fluoroscopic and ultrasound images to guide precise procedural interventions.
· Collaborate with primary care physicians, physical therapists, psychologists, and surgeons to ensure integrated, patient-centered care.
Administrative & Compliance:
· Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical records (EMR: [e.g., Epic, NextGen]).
· Adhere to state and federal prescribing regulations, including Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) checks.
· Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and utilization review meetings.
· Supervise advanced practice providers (NPs/PAs) if applicable.
Requirements:Education & Certifications:
· Medical Degree: MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
· Residency: Completion of an accredited residency in Anesthesiology, Interventional Pain Management, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), Neurology, or Radiology.
· Fellowship: Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine (multidisciplinary or anesthesiology-based).
Licensure:
· Active, unrestricted medical license in [State].
· Current DEA registration (federal and state, if applicable).
· Active ACLS and/or BLS certification.
Experience:
· 2-5 years of post-fellowship experience preferred (open to new graduates).
· Proven proficiency in fluoroscopic-guided spinal interventions.
Skills & Competencies:
· Technical Proficiency: High level of skill in interpreting fluoroscopic images and performing spinal injections with a strong safety record.
· Clinical Judgment: Ability to balance interventional treatments with conservative care; comfortable with weaning patients from opioids where appropriate.
· Communication: Excellent bedside manner; ability to explain complex diagnoses and procedures to patients clearly and empathetically.
· Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of opioid prescribing laws, prior authorization processes, and medical necessity documentation.
· Teamwork: Willingness to work in a collaborative environment with mid-level providers, physical therapists, and administrative staff.
