Position Overview
As one of Canada's largest not for profit leaders in wildlife conservation, research, and advocacy; we are seeking to fill the position of Manager, Data Science and Web Development. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer and Privacy (CIPO), the Manager is responsible for managing CWF’s data services and web development functions in support of CWF’s mandates (fundraising, conservation, education and administration).
This role provides strategic and operational leadership as a member of the IT management team in support of IT’s Business Plan that supports data science, analytics, and web development, ensuring systems and insights effectively support organizational goals. The Manager plays a key role in driving IT innovation, strengthening technical capabilities, and advancing the use of data to inform decision-making and enhance fundraising performance.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and mentor a small team of data and systems professionals, aligning work with departmental and organizational priorities
- Support employee development through coaching, performance feedback, and individualized learning plans
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and positive work environment aligned with CWF’s values
- Ensure appropriate resourcing and address team needs in a timely and effective manner
- Build and sustain team expertise in database administration, business intelligence, data architecture, and web development
Data Services & Projects
- Lead and manage data-related projects, including planning, resourcing, timelines, budgets, and performance tracking
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather requirements, define problems, and develop data-driven solutions
- Analyze complex business needs and recommend appropriate technical approaches
- Ensure strong cross-functional collaboration across teams and departments
- Implement quality assurance practices to ensure accuracy and reliability of data models and web applications
- Align data initiatives with organizational strategy, particularly in support of fundraising efforts
- Provide insights into donor behavior and campaign performance to inform strategy and decision-making
- Support the development of policies and procedures related to data and web standards
Data Science & Web Development Strategy
- Lead the development and evolution of IT data architecture, databases, and web platforms
- Provide strategic guidance on integrating data science and web development capabilities
- Identify and recommend new technologies, tools, and innovations aligned with IT long-term goals
- Ensure ethical data practices, including compliance with CWF policies and privacy regulations through responsible data use
- Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in data science and web development
- Promote continuous learning and skill development within the team
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in data science, analytics, or web development
- Demonstrated experience leading or supervising a team, including coaching, performance management, and supporting professional development
- Strong experience working with data platforms, databases, and web technologies
- Proven ability to manage projects, prioritize competing demands, and deliver results within timelines
- Experience translating complex technical concepts into clear insights for non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools (i.e Power BI, Tableau)
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms and infrastructure
- Experience implementing or maintaining data pipelines and data warehousing solutions
Assets
- Experience working in the nonprofit or charitable sector, particularly in fundraising or donor analytics
- Experience with Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud, Experience Cloud, Data Cloud and Marketing Cloud.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory)
- Experience with Microsoft Power-BI and Copilot
- Experience with Microsoft Purview
- Familiar with Microsoft AI Studio
- Knowledge of modern web development frameworks and content management systems
- Understanding digital marketing analytics and campaign performance measurement
- Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices for web development
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset
- Knowledge of data governance, privacy considerations, and ethical data practices
Work Conditions
- Full-time at 37.5 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday. Overtime may be required, including occasional evening and weekend work for emergencies.
- Salary will be determined based on experience and internal parity, and can range from $85,299 to $106,624 per year.
- Location: Based at our Head Office in Kanata (Ottawa West), Ontario with hybrid flexibility to work from home two consecutive days per week.
- Manual dexterity required to operate computer and peripherals.
- Exposure to mental stress due to managing conflicting demands and last-minute requests which impact deadlines.
- Interacts with employees, various managers, suppliers, and contractors.
