About This Position

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The President and Chief Executive Officer of Bryan Medical Center (BMC) is responsible for the planning, provision, and allocation of functional resources necessary to carry out the day-to-day operations of BMC. These responsibilities include leadership of financial, operational, service performance, as well as, organizational culture and physician, board, and community relations. All responsibilities are accomplished by establishing appropriate performance standards, qualifications and expectations of BMC and Bryan Health.

The President/CEO of BMC is required to live in the Lincoln Public Schools District.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Oversees all operations of the medical center.

3. *Oversees formulation of organizational goals, action plans, and programs in alignment with Bryan Health’s strategic plan, mission, vision, and brand standards; ensures goals, plans, and programs are properly executed, and the Board of Trustees is updated on progress quarterly.

4. *Communicates messages to all BMC constituents that are reflective of the tone and culture of Bryan Health.

5. *Ensures the provision of a safe environment for the delivery of hospital products and services consistent with all regulatory requirements.

6. *Analyzes management development needs throughout the organization and initiates actions to strengthen overall operations and individual skills.

7. *Ensures the planning and coordination of overall operational staffing requirements and levels to achieve effective workflow and service delivery throughout the Medical Center and comply with customer service standards.

8. *Develops and implements strategies for overall hospital operational improvements, through cooperative efforts with all divisions of the Medical Center, resulting in increased operational efficiencies at appropriate service levels while reducing and/or controlling costs.

9. In collaboration with other members of senior management, establishes and monitors appropriate quality indicators and initiates actions to maintain or improve standards from pre-established levels.

10. *Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring Medical Center operations, programs and physical properties; initiates changes as required to maintain compliance.

11. Maintains professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in health care administration.

12. Provides oversight to the Bryan College of Health Sciences.

13. *Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and medical staff leadership to ensure quality initiatives are achieved.

14. *Oversee the operations of the Bryan Physician Network, including the employed physicians and mid-level providers.

15. *Leads the medical center on initiatives to ensure high performance in employee engagement, physician/provider engagement and patient experience.

16. *Ensures the service performance throughout the continuum of care including pre- and post-patient relations.

17. *Provides leadership, mentoring, and coaching to the senior leaders and managers to help them achieve the medical center’s goals.

18. *Participates in physician recruitment and retention initiatives.

19. Serves as an ex-officio voting member of the BMC Board of Trustees; provides support to the governing boards, including their officers and committees.

20. Serves as a liaison to the community on behalf of the BMC and Bryan Health.

21. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

1. Knowledge of healthcare environments, hospital operations and hospital systems.

2. Knowledge of organizational and human resource management standards and practices.

3. Knowledge of ongoing healthcare trends.

4. Knowledge of performance improvement, budgetary and financial methods and practices.

5. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

6. Knowledge of management and leadership principles and practices.

7. Skill in conflict diffusion and resolution.

8. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

9. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

10. Ability to make operational and management decisions in response to changing conditions.

11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

12. Ability to develop written policies and procedures, memoranda and performance evaluations with measurable behaviors.

13. Ability to problem-solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

14. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

15. Ability to adhere to hospital and department procedures.

16. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in health related field or business is required. Minimum of ten (10) years progressive work experience as a member of senior leadership. Past CEO, COO, CFO, or CNO experience preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)

(DOT) Characterized as sedentary work requiring exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.
