Description

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Assist in dispatching import and export containers to and from intermodal railyards.
• Coordinate drivers and equipment to meet rail cut-offs, appointments, and customer delivery windows.
• Track container and chassis status, availability, and location, and communicate delays or changes to customers and management.
• Maintain dispatch records, reports, and schedules in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Provide customer service at the container yard, including greeting drivers and customers and answering questions in person and by phone.
• Verify container, booking, and paperwork details to keep gate-in and gate-out activity accurate.
• Work with railyards, steamship lines, drivers, and customers to resolve issues promptly.
• Cover weekend shifts as scheduled, 1-2 weekends per month.

Requirements

WHAT YOU BRING

Required:

• At least 1 year of previous intermodal dispatching experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Strong organization, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to multitask and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Availability to work Monday-Friday plus 1-2 weekends per month.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with railyard procedures, drayage operations, and container terminology.
• Experience with transportation management or dispatch software.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This role combines office-based dispatch work with time at an active container yard, so expect some exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, and moving equipment. Extended computer and phone use is typical.
