Senior Advisor to Principal – Data Management and Analytics in at Integral Consulting Inc.
Job Description
About You
You are an experienced data management, analytics, or environmental information systems leader who understands that great data services are not just about tools, they are about accuracy, trust, usability, and client value. You are excited by the opportunity to lead a specialized team that helps environmental scientists, engineers, project managers, business developers, and clients turn complex data into defensible decisions.
You bring a strong blend of technical judgment, consulting discipline, people leadership, and practical communication. You know how to translate client and project needs into well-scoped data solutions, realistic budgets, clear schedules, and usable deliverables. You are equally comfortable discussing data governance, dashboards, environmental chemistry workflows, database systems, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), project risk, and client expectations.
You are a builder of teams, systems, and business value. You enjoy mentoring technical staff, improving workflows, creating reusable tools and standards, and helping project teams identify data-driven services that strengthen proposals, deepen client relationships, and avoid reinventing the wheel. You understand that data services are often on the critical path of larger environmental projects, and you take pride in delivering reliable, efficient, and technically sound support.
You are also a visible and collaborative leader. You build relationships across practices, help project managers and business developers understand how data services can support client needs, and make sure the right data-management expertise is engaged early in project planning. You are energized by helping a growing consulting firm strengthen its environmental data capabilities and convert those capabilities into trusted client solutions.
About Integral
Integral Consulting Inc. is a science and engineering firm delivering sound technical solutions to meet today’s challenges in the health, environmental, and natural resource arenas. We are a values-driven, collaborative team that is as passionate about company culture as we are about the work we do for our clients. Since our founding in 2002, we have operated with a demonstrated commitment to the well-being, diversity, and professional development of our staff, and an equal commitment to strong partnerships with our clients and teaming partners. We are a company where people come to solve today’s toughest environmental challenges through innovative ideas, exceptional teamwork, and dedication to accuracy and technical quality.
About the Job
We are currently seeking a Senior Advisor to Principal-level leader to help lead and grow our Data Management and Analytics (DMA) capabilities. This role will provide leadership across environmental data management, analytics, visualization, data governance, workflow improvement, and client-facing data services.
This is a leadership role that blends people management, technical direction, project delivery, business development support, and strategic alignment. The successful candidate will help define how Integral manages, analyzes, visualizes, and communicates environmental data across complex multidisciplinary projects, while helping project teams translate those capabilities into compelling scopes, proposals, and client conversations.
The DMA leader will be responsible for strengthening the firm’s ability to deliver accurate, accessible, and usable data products to project teams and clients. This includes guiding data-management workflows, supporting dashboard and visualization strategies, improving QA/QC and documentation practices, mentoring specialized staff, and building confidence in data services across the company.
The ideal candidate will understand that the group’s value is created through operational excellence, staff competence, visible engagement with project teams, consistent delivery, and strong support of client and business development efforts. This role is not solely about independent client origination; it is about making data services a trusted, high-performing capability that supports Integral’s broader business, client, and technical goals.
This position may offer in-office, remote, or hybrid opportunities based on the candidate’s location and the needs of the organization.
Requirements:Responsibilities
Leadership and Staff Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a specialized team spanning environmental data management, analytics, database systems, visualization, and software-enabled workflows.
- Set clear expectations for staff performance, communication, responsiveness, utilization, quality, and client-service orientation.
- Support staff in translating technical data into clear, professional communication for project managers, business developers, and clients.
- Build cross-training, documentation, and knowledge-sharing practices to reduce single points of failure and preserve institutional knowledge.
Technical Leadership
- Provide strategic direction for Integral’s environmental data management and analytics capabilities.
- Guide development and implementation of defensible data-management workflows, QA/QC practices, data governance standards, and documentation protocols.
- Support evaluation and implementation of platforms, tools, dashboards, databases, licenses, and third-party services, with attention to cost, scalability, fit, and business value.
- Help define when to use existing platforms versus custom solutions, with a focus on reusable, scalable, and maintainable approaches.
- Collaborate with IT, technical directors, project managers, and vendors to support data infrastructure, visualization, and delivery systems.
Client and Business Development Support
- Support proposals, client meetings, interviews, and presentations where data management and analytics capabilities are relevant.
- Help project teams articulate the value of strong data management, defensible analytics, and clear visualization to clients.
- Develop reusable descriptions, examples, and scoping language for data-services offerings.
- Support growth of data-enabled services through operational excellence, client satisfaction, and visible collaboration across practices.
Project Management and Delivery
- Scope, budget, schedule, and manage data-services tasks and projects.
- Translate internal and external client needs into clear, realistic, and well-budgeted scopes of work.
- Track project progress against budget and schedule, communicate emerging issues early, and implement corrective actions before small deviations become major problems.
- Ensure data services are aligned with contractual requirements, technical expectations, regulatory context, and Integral’s QA/QC procedures.
- Support after-action reviews and incorporate lessons learned into improved workflows, templates, and standards.
Internal Visibility and Strategic Alignment
- Build strong working relationships with project managers, business developers, practice leads, and technical staff across Integral.
- Ensure data services are engaged early in project planning, rather than brought in reactively after scope, schedule, or budget problems emerge.
- Communicate DMA capabilities, priorities, resource needs, and business value to leadership in clear, non-technical terms.
- Identify opportunities where data management, analytics, dashboards, automation, or visualization can improve project delivery and client outcomes.
- Support strategic planning around environmental data trends, regulatory drivers, and emerging client needs.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or Ph.D. in environmental science, engineering, data science, computer science, information systems, statistics, or a related field. Equivalent experience in environmental consulting, data management, or technical leadership will also be considered.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 12+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably in environmental consulting, data management, analytics, or environmental information systems.
- Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Experience managing environmental datasets, relational databases, dashboards, data visualization, or analytics workflows.
- Familiarity with environmental data types, such as chemistry, sediment, water quality, field, geospatial, or laboratory datasets.
- Strong understanding of QA/QC, data governance, documentation, and defensible data workflows.
- Experience scoping, budgeting, and managing data-services tasks or projects.
- Ability to work collaboratively across practices, offices, and technical disciplines.
- Experience supporting proposals, client communications, and internal business development.
- A commitment to mentoring staff, improving systems, and building scalable capabilities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- A desire to grow both intellectually and professionally
- Strong organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience with EQuIS or other environmental data management systems.
- Experience with dashboarding, visualization, GIS, or business intelligence platforms.
- Experience with environmental chemistry, laboratory data workflows, or regulatory data reporting.
- Familiarity with software development, DevOps, scripting, or automation concepts.
- Experience developing reusable workflows, templates, code libraries, or data standards.
- Prior leadership in a consulting environment.
Key Attributes for Success
The successful candidate will be:
- A practical strategist who can turn broad goals into clear operating systems.
- A collaborative partner who helps the broader firm deliver better work through stronger data services.
- A continuous learner who stays aware of emerging tools, regulatory expectations, and client needs.
- A strong communicator who makes data services understandable and valuable to project teams and clients.
- A people leader who develops staff and builds trust across disciplines.
- A disciplined project manager who understands budget, schedule, scope, and quality.
- A technical steward who values data accuracy, documentation, defensibility, and usability.
