Position: House Manager

Reports To: Administrator

Summary: The House Manager, functioning as a Direct Support Professional under the Administrator's supervision, performs specific, supportive services for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This role requires sound judgment, adherence to best practices, and the maintenance of a safe and secure residential environment. The House Manager acts as a coach, mentor, and advocate, ensuring compliance with all residential standards, including individual rights, protection of persons and possessions, mandatory reporting of suspected abuse or violations, and the provision of compassionate care to the intellectually disabled population.

Qualifications:

  1. Possession of a valid state-issued driver's license, with the ability to obtain and maintain insurability for driving purposes, is preferred.

  2. Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) by the Department of Health Services, or demonstrated training and experience in basic nursing procedures, is preferred. Alternatively, a high school diploma or GED is acceptable, provided the individual possesses the ability to speak, read, and write legibly in English to sufficiently perform all required duties.

  3. Completion of Direct Support Professional training I & II, as mandated by the Department of Social Services, is required.

  4. Demonstrated ability to communicate, comprehend, follow, and execute both written and verbal directions or instructions necessary for job performance.

  5. Proficiency in recording written messages and maintaining simple records.

  6. Possession of a valid and current First Aid/CPR card is mandatory. If not held, certification in Basic Life Support (BCLS) CPR must be obtained within three (3) months of employment.

  7. Maintenance of a current physical examination and TB/x-ray clearance is required.

  8. Certification by the facility nurse to administer medications must be obtained within three (3) months from the date of hire.

  9. Ability to attend scheduled in-service training sessions (three hours per month, on-site or off-site as directed by the Interdisciplinary Team) and staff meetings.

  10. Successful completion of fingerprint clearance as required by the Department of Social Services through the Department of Justice.

  11. Minimum age of twenty-one (21) years.

Personal Requirements:

  1. Good physical health with no limitations is required.

  2. Demonstration of maturity and emotional stability to maintain adequate attendance and perform assigned tasks effectively.

  3. Capacity to accept correction, constructive criticism, and supervision, and to work cooperatively with other staff members.

  4. Adherence to professional personal grooming standards and the established residential dress code.

  5. Demonstrated genuine interest and concern for individuals with intellectual disabilities, coupled with a willingness to develop necessary skills for providing active training.

General Assigned Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain a functional telephone and personal vehicle for reliable transportation to work.

  2. Assign responsibilities to specific staff members, oversee all duties, and ensure their thorough completion.

  3. Maintain the staff schedule and verify that Direct Support Staff are assigned to all shifts daily. The House Manager is responsible for covering any shifts lacking available staff to ensure the health and safety of residents and must report any staffing shortages or scheduling discrepancies to the Administrator.

  4. Be available to work any shift that is not covered by a Direct Support Staff member.

  5. Report for and work assigned duty House Manager weekends.

  6. Provide general support to individuals, including training in activities of daily living (e.g., greetings, dressing, toileting, bathing, oral hygiene, skin care, beauty care, hair shampooing, nail care, and shaving as necessary). Ensure incontinent individuals are kept clean and dry at all times.

  7. Verify diets prior to serving food or drinks. Train and support individuals with eating, understanding and observing specific eating objectives and necessary special equipment.

  8. Train and support individuals in mobility to maximize abilities in areas such as exercise, transferring, range of motion, ambulation, and wheelchair positioning/mobility.

  9. Maintain a level of personal conduct with clients, families, and other staff members that fosters a friendly, comfortable, and safe environment conducive to client progress in social, emotional, and physical skills.

  10. Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team in establishing goals and objectives for clients during the development of their Individual Service Plans (ISP). Staff are expected to provide feedback to Administration and Consultants.

  11. Review the Department of Justice Video on Abuse Reporting and sign an acknowledgment of responsibility and understanding in reporting all suspected abuse.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide training and support to individuals in personal care, including dressing/undressing, bathing, oral hygiene (including denture care when needed), toileting, shampooing, and hair, nail, and skin care. Provide training in the development of self-help skills as outlined in the resident's Individual Service Plan.

  2. Be knowledgeable of each assigned individual's ability level and adhere to the skills training program outlined in their ISP.

  3. Respect and promote the rights of individuals, maintaining the dignity of each person during daily support procedures.

  4. Provide direct support in the following areas and other related duties as assigned by the Administrator:

    1. Support individuals in administering and documenting medication in accordance with established policy and procedures.

    2. Support individuals in administering general first aid as needed and instructed.

    3. Train and support individuals in feeding following established techniques and procedures.

    4. Support individuals in preparing all meals and snacks.

    5. Support the correct application and removal of adaptive orthopedic devices, such as braces.

    6. Support individuals in cleaning and maintaining wheelchairs in proper working condition on a regular basis.

    7. Provide proper care of prosthetic devices such as hearing aids and glasses.

    8. Support and train individuals in personal laundry and other housekeeping tasks as identified in their ISP. Support residents with the selection and care of clothing for the following day.

    9. Support cooking and meal planning under the direction of the Administrator and consulting Dietician. Include residents in meal planning, preparation, and the meal process as appropriate. Ensure lunches are prepared for the following day, if applicable.

    10. Support clients in purchasing groceries, labeling, dating, and rotating food supplies. This includes supporting residents in separating and packaging food supplies as directed by the Administrator. It also includes the immediate disposal of all outdated and/or spoiled foods, checking expiration dates prior to use, and disposing of all cooked items in the refrigerator after forty-eight (48) hours.

  5. Be knowledgeable of individualized daily schedules and carry out scheduled activities. Maintain supplies in good condition and ensure proper storage.

  6. Utilize proper body mechanics and observe all safety precautions to minimize injuries to self and others.

  7. Complete assigned housekeeping duties as directed by the Administrator.

  8. Participate in ongoing in-service training for a minimum of thirty-six (36) hours per year, including scheduled staff meetings.

  9. Understand home Fire/Disaster procedures and participate in drills. Understand the role to assume in case of an emergency.

  10. Exercise sound judgment and adhere to established house procedures. Seek guidance from the Administrator when in doubt.

  11. Report all unusual occurrences, suggestions, or observations to the Administrator.

  12. Conduct body checks to ensure residents are free from bruises, abrasions, and other injuries.

  13. Understand charting procedures, including legal and ethical considerations and the confidentiality of all records. Document all training programs as instructed by the Administrator.

  14. Adhere to the Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in the Employee Handbook, as well as the facility dress code. Failure to comply may result in termination.
