About This Position

This position plays a key role in coordinating diverse programming and events at the newly constructed Viaduct Park complex, as well as leading seasonal scheduling and program operations for all system-wide indoor and outdoor ice rinks. The role also provides aquatics scheduling and swim lesson support to the Recreation Superintendent, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality delivery. In addition, the position supports a wide range of recreation programs, special events, and aquatics initiatives, and works collaboratively with other Recreation Coordinators to deliver consistent and inclusive offerings across the community.

This position is responsible for organizing programs and events related to programming and special events at Viaduct Park, all seasonal ice-related facilities such as outdoor rinks and the splash pad, as well as aquatics programming scheduling, and swim lesson support.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Hire, train, schedules, supervise and evaluate employees and volunteers for with support from the Recreation Superintendent aquatic programs, seasonal rinks, Viaduct Park, and other recreation events and facilities.
  • Schedule rentals and facility usage including meeting and event rooms at Viaduct Park and seasonal use of outdoor and aquatic facilities.
  • Prepare and maintain program records.
  • Work closely and cooperate with other Coordinators and Supervisors on joint programs and areas of overlapping responsibilities.
  • Prepare program budgets and monitor revenues and expenditures for approved programs.
  • Prepare and maintain facility usage records.
  • Promote department programs with civic groups, schools, churches, social organizations, athletic organizations and other interested groups.
  • Develop promotional materials, recruit participants and assist in the production of quarterly bulletins.
  • Provide program information to customers, facility receptionists and other staff.
  • Coordinate site and facility needs with the appropriate site supervisors.
  • Approve and submit payroll for program employees.
  • Approve and submit accounts payable records.
  • Be active in professional organizations associated with the park and recreation profession.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or apparent.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
The operation and programming of the newly constructed Viaduct Park. This facility includes a splash pad, small concession stand, and two meeting/event rooms. Phase 2 includes the construction of a covered ice rink.

Assists with the operation of Faribault's two aquatic facilities: the 12,000 sq ft outdoor aquatic center and the 6-lane, 25-yard indoor pool at the Community Center.
This is a year-round, full-time position (40 hours/week), including daytime, evening, and weekend hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in recreation, physical education or a closely related field; and two years of progressively responsible supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be available to work weekdays, evenings, and weekends
  • Previous Parks and Recreation employment experience preferred
  • A degree in Education, Recreation Management, Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Sports Management or related field is preferred. Related work experience may be considered in lieu of degree
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge and/or experience in recreation program development.
  • Working knowledge of organized sport and game rules.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in English with various groups, staff, and citizens related to recreation issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately record and maintain records.
  • Demonstrated skill in operating the listed tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability in displaying tact and professional decorum relating to public officials, citizens and staff.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of temporary, seasonal part-time receptionists or other staff at Viaduct Park, seasonal rinks, and related aquatic and recreation programs and events.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheet and database software; copy machine; fax machine; phone; CIVIC Rec Software; Tyler accounting software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to swim, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be physically able to perform all rescue skills, including backboard rescue and deep water lift.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, and moderately loud when in the swimming pool areas.
