Job Description

Summary:

The Senior Survey Technician will focus on execution of technical tasks necessary to create survey deliverables and provide in depth knowledge to project teams for survey solutions. This role will work directly with the PLS, survey team, project managers, engineering, clients, and field crews to achieve project goals. The Senior Survey Technician will work with a variety of software and data to include conventional survey, GPS, and point clouds from terrestrial and aerial LIDAR and photogrammetry datasets.

Expected Results in the role:
  • Lead drafting and data processing assignments within the time budgeted to do so.
  • Review Survey Field Packs for accuracy and completeness, ensuring scope of work is covered.
  • Teach Ascent layering conventions, drafting practices, and workflows.
  • Handoff accurate and complete data to all departments.
  • Step up whenever necessary to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Create drafting templates for projects.
  • Review infrastructure routes for accuracy and completeness, as well as correctness of existing crossings.
  • Coordinate and lead large scale drafting efforts.
  • Perform QA/QC on all drafting and data processing.
  • Review and package client submittals.
  • Attend or lead client calls and screen shares for planning and design purposes.
  • Dispatch and communicate with field crews and create calcs on demand to facilitate field work.
  • Assist other team members when they have problems.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of Survey/GIS relationship and processes unique to Ascent.
  • Assist with workflow documentation, improvement, and implementation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Review Processed Data for accuracy and correctness.
  • Review Survey Field Packs.
  • Draft and QA/QC Survey Plats and Legal Descriptions for PLS Review.
  • Draft and QA/QC topographic survey deliverables.
  • Draft and QA/QC ALTA deliverables.
  • Correctly read and draft previously recorded documents.
  • Set up templates, Draft, and QA/QC Alignment Sheets.
  • Assist Project Managers (PM’s), Senior Project Managers (Sr. PM’s), and Professional Land Surveyors (PLS) with various tasks, as necessary.
  • Attend screen shares and client calls with PM’s, Sr. PM’s, and PLS’ to aide in planning and design.
  • Help finalize and package deliverables for submittal.
  • Handoff accurate and complete data to all departments.
  • Assist with Project Time Review.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Assist teammates with questions and problems as necessary.
  • Assist supervisors with coordinating large scale work.
  • Help coordinate and organize larger drafting efforts.
Required Skills & Abilities:
  • Expert Civil 3D Skills
  • Trimble Business Center Expert
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • In Depth understanding of Coordinate Systems.
  • Public Land Survey System
    • Aliquot Parts
  • Metes and Bounds Descriptions
  • Public Records Research
Required Education, Certifications, and Experience:
  • 4 plus years of relevant survey/drafting experience.
  • SIT is a plus
  • SIT Path is a plus
  • Educational requirements to become licensed in a PLSS state is a plus
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
  • Reliable internet access and a designated, quiet workspace are required.
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time, including regular use of a keyboard, mouse, and monitors.
Other Need-to-know items:
  • Remote work within the domestic United States is acceptable.
  • Standard work hours are Monday–Friday, generally aligned to Mountain Standard Time (MST), to support collaboration with clients and internal teams. Flexibility is supported within continental U.S. time zones, provided core team availability and communication are maintained.
  • Evening or weekend work may occasionally be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Travel may be required on occasion for team collaboration, training, or project support.
  • Employment is limited to candidates authorized to work in the United States and able to perform work within continental U.S. time zones.
