About This Position
Do Great Things! The instructor of EMS is responsible for course preparation, delivery, grading, and records management. The instructor will work closely with his or her discipline chair and other discipline or cross-discipline faculty on matters related to and for the benefit of the Emergency Medical Sciences department and its students.

The essential functions of this role are outlined within the duties shared below:
Eligible to obtain a N.C. Office of EMS Paramedic Level I Instructor credential; three years practical experience as a certified medic; must be able to work a flexible schedule.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related public service or medical field of study. Possess a N.C. Level I Paramedic Instructor Certification, Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP), National Association of EMT’s (NAEMT) Instructor, American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS Instructor.

The essential functions of this role are outlined within the duties shared below:
- Teach a minimum load of 48 contact hours per semester in a flexible schedule as determined by the needs of the program and as approved by the Dean, Human Services and Public Safety;
- Have instructional plans prepared for each class session and in accordance with the stated objectives of the course;
- Enforce academic policy and procedures at all times, and comply with all other institutional rules and regulations pertinent to classroom/clinical instruction and general employment
- Serve as educational advisor to students, as required and as otherwise requested or needed by individual students
- Assist in the development and enforcement of policies and procedures related to student admission, progression and graduation;
- Be available to students requiring additional assistance;
- Assist in the revision and development of course outlines, syllabi, curriculum plans, and other instructional documentation required to meet program objectives;
- Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of competency-based education and utilize available educational resources for the improvement of instruction and the creation of teaching materials;
- Assist the program director in the identification, preview, and acquisition of needed educational resources, including textbook selection, library materials, laboratory supplies, and other instructional provisions.
- Participate in registration activities each semester as assigned and assist in the recruitment of students;
- Participate in program, departmental, divisional, and instructional meetings and other announced activities;
- Maintain complete office and student records, as needed; processing reports, forms, and all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner, checking for the accuracy, correctness, and completeness of all data;
- Fulfill committee assignments and other special appointments within the educational community as well as the community-at-large, and otherwise give appropriate support to institutional endeavors;
- Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations, as well as to meet the needs of the program, department, division, and the College;
- Take advantage of in-service training and other opportunities for continued professional development, including attendance at off-campus activities, as feasible, and generally staying abreast of developments in the field of instruction;
- Maintain proper communication and supportive relations at all times with all other units and branches of the division and the College, providing assistance to them in carrying out their respective functions;
- Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the program director, department dean, senior vice president, and/or president in meeting the needs of the program, department, division, and the College

Work Experience:
- Three years EMS teaching experience
- Three years of experience as a full-time Paramedic
- Experience in management and supervision with a medical or emergency service organization.
- Familiarity with the North Carolina and national EMS accreditation organizations
- Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and effective oral and written communication/public relation skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to think creatively and put ideas into action.
- Ability to make presentations to large audiences.
- Excellent computer skills as evidenced by experience with at least one data analysis/business intelligence software product (such as SAS, SPSS, Informer, Estudias) and competence with Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word.
- Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Understanding of the mission, goals, and objectives of a community college.
