About This Position
SUMMARY
As a Technical Writer for KMC Controls, you will own the creation, standardization, and continuous improvement of KMC’s technical documentation, including data sheets, installation guides, application guides, release notes, technical bulletins, training resources, and technical marketing materials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned:
- Develop and maintain data sheets, installation guides, application guides, release notes, and technical bulletins for KMC’s hardware, firmware, and software products.
- Create technical marketing materials, such as case studies, white papers, and partner resources.
- Translate information from Subject Matter Experts (engineers, developers, and product managers) into clear, audience-appropriate content.
- Collaborate with Marketing to ensure tone and presentation are consistent across technical and promotional materials.
- Manage document updates in coordination with product releases, ensuring version control and accuracy.
- Create product webpages by filling out custom WordPress forms.
- Support the development of partner and end-user training materials and knowledge base articles.
- Establish and maintain standardized document templates, tone, and formatting for brand cohesion.
- Maintain and improve KMC’s technical documentation library and related workflows.
- Track progress and completion of documentation deliverables in project management software.

Required
- A bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience creating and managing technical documentation (preferably in B2B technology, SaaS, or manufacturing environments)
- Proficiency with documentation tools such as MadCap Flare, Adobe InDesign, or similar desktop and cloud-based applications
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams
- Ability to learn complex systems and translate technical details into user-focused content
Preferred
- Experience in building automation, HVAC, controls, or IoT environments
- Familiarity with version control systems
- Understanding of the intersection between technical and marketing content for partner enablement
- Ability to travel occasionally to KMC’s New Paris, Indiana headquarters
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Engineering, or a related field

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and part aid prints. Ability to enter production using Epicor MES. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one discussion with supervisor and Co-workers
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract multi-digit numbers.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The ability to use small hand tools and power screw guns. With training, use of soldering equipment.
