$20,000 Sign-On Bonus
Full Time Night Shift 7 PM-7 AM, every other weekend required, three 12 hour shifts per week. One on call shift may be required per pay period.

The Registry Eligible Certified Respiratory Therapist performs various basic therapeutic, diagnostic and life support respiratory care procedures in general and intensive patient care areas.

The Registry Eligible Certified Respiratory Therapist

  • Performs various therapeutic and diagnostic procedures specific to Carilion Clinic, Respiratory Care Services departments.

  • Monitors patients for effectiveness of therapy, as well as adverse reactions.

  • Provides life support modalities accurately and safely to patients of all ages.

  • Educates patients/families/significant others about respiratory-related topics. Explains procedures to patients to elicit cooperation and maximize effectiveness of procedures.

  • Provides complete, accurate and timely documentation on patients of all ages.

  • Actively participates in performance improvement program by obtaining desired outcomes. Assures personal and professional development through participation in educational activities and completion of annual competency validation.

  • Performs support functions that are facility specific (documentation, charging, filing, scheduling orientation of new employees or students, etc.). Performs cleaning, preventative maintenance and operational verification of equipment and recognizes equipment malfunction/takes appropriate action. Monitors safety practices in the work environment and reports areas of concern.

  • Orients new employees and may provide guidance to volunteers, students, support, or contract staff.

  • Communicates with patients, patient’s family members and members of the healthcare team.

  • Accesses, enters and/or updates confidential patient healthcare information as a regular responsibility of the job. Shares patient information as per HIPAA guidelines.

  • Follows established protocols. Work involves application of basic respiratory knowledge and advanced skills to provide patient care.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and assesses data reflective of the patient's status. Interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and provides care according to departmental policies and procedures.

What We Require:

Education: Associate degree and/or certification required from a CoARC (Committee on Accreditation of Respiratory Care Education) approved school of respiratory therapy.

Experience: none.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Va. State Board of Medicine. Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Must be able to obtain RRT within 12 months of employment in this position.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required.
