Join our amazing Senior Activities team to provide transportation for adults ages 50+! The CDL Shuttle Driver for Senior Activities performs responsible work in the operation of a shuttle bus to transport participants from Parks Tacoma community centers to trip destinations. Vehicles may include: 15-passenger shuttle bus with wheelchair lift, 15-passenger van, 17-passenger shuttle bus, or 28-passenger shuttle bus. The program serves as a safe, healthy place for adults ages 50+ to play, learn, and grow.

Position Information

Performs responsible work in the operation of a shuttle van to transport participants for programs and a truck towing trailers for events and programs. Operates Parks Tacoma vehicles to transport program participants to trip destinations. Vehicles may include: 15-passenger shuttle bus with wheelchair lift, 15-passenger van, 17-passenger shuttle bus, or 28-passenger shuttle bus.

In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to:
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
  • Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.

  • Performs visual inspection and operational safety check of assigned vehicle.
  • Keeps alert for mechanical or other equipment problems requiring attention
  • Reports repair needs, traffic hazards, accidents, and other conditions requiring attention.
  • Completes daily report forms which record mileage, mechanical defects and necessary supplies.
  • May be assigned to report at a different time and location and to perform different duties as necessary.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Drivers' license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must have Class C CDL with Passenger Endorsement.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
  • One year of experience in driving larger vehicles.
  • Must have considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of similar automotive equipment.
  • Must have considerable knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations applicable to equipment operation.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include evening, weekends and holidays if needed.

HOURS/SCHEDULE:
  • Average of 4-5 hours per week (or about 15-20 hours per month).
  • Schedule will be dependent on senior trips that include 1-5 each month typically occurring on weekdays.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
  • Requires sitting and driving vehicles for extended periods of time.
  • Sight to read and prepare record and reports.

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds regularly, 40 pounds occasionally.
