Job Description

Description:

Verve, LLC is continually accepting applications for experienced Medical Coders specializing in Outpatient (Multispecialty) and Emergency Department coding. We are seeking detail-oriented professionals committed to coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and delivering high-quality work in support of federal healthcare programs.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience coding a broad range of outpatient encounters, including day surgery, anesthesia, emergency department, observation, and specialty clinic visits. Experience accurately assigning Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels across multiple specialties is strongly preferred.

A valid Common Access Card (CAC), or the ability to obtain one promptly, is a requirement for this position. Candidates must be able to satisfy applicable client and government access, identity verification, and security requirements.

This position offers a flexible, unit-based compensation structure that allows qualified coders to work part-time and earn compensation based on the number of coding units they successfully complete. Earning potential is directly tied to individual productivity, coding accuracy, and the applicable per-unit rates. Coders who complete more files may earn more, subject to available work, applicable quality standards, and client requirements.

The Medical Coder is responsible for assigning accurate diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, applicable coding guidelines, payer requirements, and organizational policies while maintaining the confidentiality and security of protected health information.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes in accordance with official coding guidelines and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Accurately code a variety of outpatient encounters, including day surgery, anesthesia, emergency department, observation, and specialty clinic services.
  • Assign accurate Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels and apply E/M coding guidelines across multiple specialties.
  • Review clinical documentation to ensure complete and accurate code assignment and identify documentation deficiencies when appropriate.
  • Complete assigned coding files in accordance with established productivity, quality, and turnaround-time standards.
  • Meet applicable client and Verve, LLC quality requirements to ensure completed units qualify for compensation.
  • Maintain a valid CAC or promptly complete the process necessary to obtain one, as required for access to designated client systems and work.
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, client, and organizational policies related to coding, documentation, privacy, and security.
  • Protect the confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) in accordance with applicable laws and company policies.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, education, and training as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional medical coding experience in a general acute care hospital (inpatient and/or outpatient) or multispecialty physician practice.
  • Demonstrated experience coding outpatient encounters, including emergency department, observation, day surgery, anesthesia, and specialty clinic services.
  • Experience assigning Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels; experience across multiple specialties is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, Official Coding Guidelines, and applicable Coding Clinic guidance.
  • Possession of a valid CAC or the ability to obtain one promptly and meet applicable government or client access requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to coding accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting established productivity, quality, and turnaround-time expectations.
  • Ability to manage workload independently and complete coding files accurately within required deadlines.
  • Additional coding certifications are a plus.
  • Experience supporting federal healthcare programs or government contracts is preferred.
  • Experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems and encoder software.
  • Prior experience working in a production-based or unit-based medical coding environment.
Compensation and Work Schedule

This position uses a unit-based compensation model, with payment calculated according to the applicable rate for each eligible coding unit completed.

  • Flexible schedule: Part-time work is available, allowing coders to complete files around their individual availability, subject to project needs and deadlines.
  • Productivity-based earnings: Compensation is based on completed, eligible coding units rather than solely on hours worked. Individual earnings will vary based on production, applicable rates, quality requirements, and available assignments.
  • Performance opportunity: Coders who can accurately complete more files have the opportunity to earn more through increased production.
  • Quality expectations: All completed files must meet applicable coding accuracy and quality standards to qualify for payment under the applicable compensation terms.
  • Work availability: Assignment volume may vary based on client demand, project requirements, and system access.

The specific per-unit rates, eligible unit definitions, quality requirements, payment terms, and other applicable compensation conditions will be communicated during the hiring and onboarding process.

Work Location and Security Requirements
  • 100% remote within the United States.
  • Candidates must maintain a secure, private workspace and reliable internet connection that complies with Verve, LLC and client security requirements.
  • This position requires handling PHI and PII. Employees must comply with all applicable privacy, confidentiality, and information security requirements.
