The Senior Portfolio Manager / Senior Credit Underwriter is responsible for underwriting, structuring, and managing a complex portfolio of commercial loans while maintaining strong asset quality and regulatory compliance. This role partners closely with the Market President and Senior Credit Officer to deliver sound credit solutions, provide senior-level risk oversight, and support portfolio strategy within a community banking environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite and structure complex commercial credits, including C&I, owner-occupied and investor CRE, construction, and development loans.
- Perform advanced financial analysis, global cash flow assessment, collateral evaluation, and guarantor review.
- Prepare and approve credit memoranda with risk ratings, structures, and mitigants in accordance with policy and delegated authority.
- Actively manage a commercial loan portfolio, including financial monitoring, covenant compliance, and annual reviews.
- Identify emerging risks, manage criticized assets, and partner with Special Assets on problem credits and workout strategies.
- Serve as a senior credit partner to Relationship Managers, providing guidance on deal structuring, renewals, and portfolio decisions.
- Support audits, loan reviews, and regulatory examinations; ensure adherence to credit policy and regulatory standards.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior credit staff as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- 815+ years of experience in commercial credit underwriting and portfolio management.
- Strong expertise in C&I, CRE, construction lending, and global cash flow analysis.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex and criticized credits.
- Prior community or regional bank experience preferred.
