POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Project Engineer, you’ll work closely with our Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams to design, standardize, and optimize control systems and HMI displays across multiple packaging and processing lines. You’ll help develop scalable engineering templates, document electrical and control system standards, and assist with the design and implementation of automation upgrades that keep Alsum at the forefront of produce packaging.
This position is ideal for a mid-level electrical engineer or entry-level controls engineer seeking flexible, part-time project work that directly impacts production efficiency and reliability.

Requirements:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and modify electrical and control system designs to support equipment improvements and expansions
- Create and maintain HMI screen templates, dashboard layouts, and process visualization standards (Ignition platform preferred)
- Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to plan engineering priorities and implement process improvements
- Draft wiring diagrams, system schematics, and control panel layouts for internal documentation
- Maintain accurate project files, software versions, and revision histories
- Participate in weekly check-ins or virtual planning sessions to align project goals and sprint priorities to deliver value
- Perform other related engineering and technical tasks as needed
- Provide Tier-2 Troubleshooting and other related engineering and technical support as neede
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field required (or equivalent experience)
- 3–5 years of relevant project or controls engineering experience
- Experience with PLC/HMI systems (Ignition, Allen-Bradley, or similar platforms)
- Familiarity with industrial automation, electrical panel design, and instrumentation
- Experience in food processing, packaging, or agricultural automation preferre
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of electrical and control system design fundamentals
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Effective communicator and collaborator with operations and maintenance personnel
- Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple small projects concurrently
- Proficient in creating or interpreting wiring diagrams and control schematics
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to occasionally work in production areas to observe and test systems
- Must be able to stand, walk, and climb as needed for equipment access
- Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds occasionally
- Must wear PPE in designated plant areas when onsite
