Job Description
Purpose of Role:
Ensure the safety and reliability of Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) by assisting in leading rail vehicle maintenance operations, supporting budget administration, emergency response activities and overhaul processes.
The full salary range for the position is ($100,736.95 - $151,105.42 ) with an anticipated starting salary between entry ($100,736.95) and midpoint ($125,921.18) of the range. It’s essential to note that the actual salary offered will be determined based on several factors, including skills, qualifications, experience, education, certifications, training and internal equity considerations.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
Work is performed in a combination of office/vehicle/outdoor settings with routine use of standard office and specialty equipment. This role requires light physical exertion, including occasionally up to 20 lbs., frequently up to 10 lbs., or negligible amounts, and may require walking or standing to a significant degree.
This role typically requires sitting, handling, fine dexterity, visual acuity, hearing, speaking, walking, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, kneeling, bending, climbing, reaching, twisting, crouching, balancing, crawling, noisy/distracting environment, foot controls, time pressure, tedious or exacting work, changing of tasks, multi-tasking, emergency situations, irregular work schedule/overtime, noisy/distracting environment and working with others on a team.
This role also experiences monthly exposure to mechanical hazards, respiratory hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, noise and vibration, fire hazards and physical hazards; and seasonal exposure to extreme temperatures and wetness/humidity.

Education and/or Experience
- Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Transportation Management, or a related field.
- Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in light rail, heavy rail, transit vehicle, or heavy equipment maintenance, including:
- Maintenance operations coordination;
- Fleet reliability and maintenance scheduling;
- Preventive maintenance program administration; and
- Contractor oversight.
- Three (3) years of supervisory experience managing maintenance personnel in 24/7 transit vehicle or heavy equipment maintenance operation.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
- Additional education cannot be substituted for experience

- Assist with management of operations within area of responsibility to develop, enhance or sustain quality services by providing budget and program development and oversight; resolve complex issues; and develop and communicate department and individual expectations, policies, procedures and strategic direction.
- Supervise the daily operations and activities of an assigned unit within a department, including managing schedules and work priorities, monitoring and evaluating staff performance, facilitating access to resources and training, providing guidance, addressing issues, conducting interviews, making hiring decisions and enforcing policies.
- Serve as a liaison between the team and upper management, conveying information and feedback in both directions.
- Assist with overseeing and managing the preventative maintenance and repair of rail vehicles, including assisting with division budget-related activities.
- Monitor and report on fleet reliability, sustainability and maintenance schedules to ensure availability of vehicles and support operations.
- Facilitate inventory coordination and requests for special parts, maintain vendor contacts and administer and coordinate contracts.
- Serve as liaison to various internal and external customers and stakeholders.
- Respond to and manage emergency situations.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
In addition, when assigned to Overhaul:
- Manage, plan and track overhaul process and timeline for major assets.
- Oversee and manage contractors.
- Facilitate effective maintenance coordination and asset management to maximize uptime and reliability of equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate with material control and maintenance planners to verify information, ensure databases are accurate and necessary parts and materials are available.
- Prepare and provide reports, correspondence, recommendations and updates; and validate compliance with maintenance and inspection policies and procedures.
- Prioritize work accordingly around emergent situations.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of:
- Extensive grasp of transit fleet maintenance management processes.
- Advanced understanding of preventative maintenance overhaul coordination processes.
- Fundamental grasp of budget development and oversight practices.
- In-depth awareness of technical team and management liaison processes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of fleet reliability monitoring and scheduling procedures.
- Essential understanding of contract and vendor coordination practices.
- Detailed understanding of emergency response coordination protocols.
- Using a computer and related software.
Skill in:
- Supervising daily maintenance operations and personnel.
- Assisting with preventative railway vehicle overhauls.
- Monitoring fleet reliability and maintenance schedules.
- Coordinating inventory and special parts procurement.
- Coordinating with material control and planners.
- Facilitating emergency maintenance responses effectively.
- Preparing reports, recommendations and compliance documentation.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to exchange information and receive work direction.
