POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Clinical Training provides strategic and clinical leadership for the Wellness Counseling Center, CIIS's internal mental health clinic serving enrolled students and functioning as an approved predoctoral and postdoctoral training site for the Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) program.

Reporting to the Dean of Students, this position oversees the clinical training program while partnering with the Director of Clinic Operations and Programs to provide high-quality counseling services, ethical clinical supervision, and compliance with California Board of Psychology regulations. The Director fosters an inclusive, culturally responsive, and integrative clinical environment that supports both student wellness and professional development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Training & Supervision

• Direct the predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship training program in collaboration with the Director of Clinic Operations and Programs.
• Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate Psy.D. interns and postdoctoral fellows.
• Ensure all clinical supervision and training activities comply with California Board of Psychology regulations, ethical standards, and accreditation requirements.
• Develop and implement the clinical training curriculum, including orientation, seminars, didactic instruction, and case conferences.
• Provide weekly individual and group clinical supervision.
• Complete trainee evaluations, performance reviews, and required documentation.
• Oversee clinical documentation to ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards.
• Collaborate with the Clinical Training Committee and Psy.D. Program leadership to align training objectives with academic goals.
• Maintain current knowledge of Board of Psychology regulations and best practices in clinical supervision.

Wellness Counseling Center Leadership

• Provide clinical leadership for the Wellness Counseling Center in collaboration with the Director of Clinic Operations and Programs.
• Support the daily operations of the Wellness Counseling Center.
• Provide direct clinical services, including individual therapy, supervision, consultation, and training.
• Consult on crisis intervention and student behavioral health concerns.
• Participate on the Student Affairs Leadership Team and attend regular departmental meetings.
• Serve as a clinical liaison with external providers, including TimelyCare.
• Collaborate with Academic Program Chairs, Graduate Advisors, Faculty, CARE Team members, and campus partners to support student success.
• Assist with assessment, quality improvement initiatives, program evaluation, and clinical policy development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from an accredited institution.
• Current California Licensed Psychologist in good standing.
• Minimum of three (3) years of post-licensure clinical experience.
• Demonstrated experience supervising doctoral-level psychology trainees.
• Knowledge of California Board of Psychology supervision requirements and applicable laws and regulations.
• Experience working in a university counseling center, psychology training clinic, community mental health setting, or similar environment.
• Experience providing individual therapy, crisis intervention, and clinical consultation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to successfully complete a background check.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position is performed primarily in an office and clinical counseling environment. Responsibilities include providing therapy, clinical supervision, meetings, documentation, and collaboration with campus partners. The position is hybrid, with an on-campus presence of one to two days per week preferred.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

• Sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
• Communicate effectively in person and virtually.
• Occasionally move throughout campus to attend meetings and provide clinical services.
• Operate standard office equipment.

LOCATION

This is a 0.50 FTE (20 hours per week), hybrid position. Candidates must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area and be able to reliably commute to CIIS's campus at 1453 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA. Regular on-campus attendance of 1-2 days per week is expected to support clinical operations, student services, supervision, meetings, and collaboration with campus partners. A consistent on-campus presence is an essential function of this position, and additional on-campus attendance may be required based on operational or clinical needs.

WAGES AND BENEFITS

$52.88 - $57.69

• Working Conditions Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal, typically Monday through Friday.
