The Role: Winter Services Crew Member
We provide the tools, technology, and support; you bring the skill and dedication. In this role, you will play a key part in clearing snow and ice from commercial, residential, and public properties using manual shovels, de-icers, and sidewalk clearing equipment during the winter season.
Your Daily Impact:
Manual & Mechanical Operations: Perform strenuous manual labour, including shovelling snow, applying de-icing agents, and operating snow blowers, sweepers, ice chippers, and spreaders.
Site Clearing & Quality Standards: Efficiently clear sidewalks, walkways, and designated site access points to meet commercial quality standards.
Asset Care & Equipment Management: Conduct routine inspections, perform basic maintenance, and ensure all hand tools and equipment are accounted for, cleaned, and properly secured at shift end.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management: Actively participate in mandatory Toolbox meetings, complete required safety logs/reports, follow Safe Work Practices (SWP) and Safe Job Procedures (SJP), and wear all PPE without exception.
Mobile Tech & Site Logging: Utilize mobile applications (e.g., Aspire, Asset Tiger, SiteDocs) for accurate daily timekeeping, work verification, and safety reporting.
Team Culture & Operations: Foster a positive, supportive team environment, maintain clear communication with field supervisors and peers, and contribute to a strong workplace safety culture.
Essentials for Success (Qualifications & Skills)
To thrive in this role, you will need a solid technical foundation and a strong work ethic:
Knowledge: Experience in snow removal or outdoor labour (asset, training provided), safe operation of snow blowers/manual tools, SWP/SJP principles, and hazard awareness.
Skills: Ability to operate small mechanical equipment, smartphone mobile app usage for site logging, and optional experience driving light trucks with trailers or holding a Class 5 license.
Abilities: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, perform heavy physical labour, work outdoors in extreme winter conditions, maintain flexible availability for long/on-call hours (early mornings, days, nights, weekends, holidays), and adhere strictly to PPE and safety protocols.
Compensation & Total Rewards
Your rewards package is designed to support your daily success and long-term financial goals:
Competitive Hourly Wage: Based on experience and skill level.
Predictable Paychecks: Through our Alberta Hours of Work Averaging Agreement, we offer banked time to keep your pay steady during weather delays or seasonal shifts.
