Field Technical Engineer in at LeoTech
Job Description
You will install, integrate and support our AI platform on site in corrections, law enforcement and government facilities. Most of the work is connecting camera fleets, video management systems (VMS) and facility networks to our analytics. The rest is deploying and maintaining the on-prem and edge servers that run it. This is a hands-on, customer-facing field role with regular travel, not a cloud DevOps position.
Requirements:WHAT YOU'LL DO
Video and VMS integration (primary focus)
• Lead on-site integration of our AI analytics with customer video environments: IP cameras, encoders, NVRs and VMS platforms (Genetec Security Center, Milestone XProtect, Avigilon, Axis Camera Station or equivalent).
• Configure video ingestion over RTSP, ONVIF (Profiles S, G, T and M) and VMS SDKs or APIs; tune stream profiles, codecs (H.264/H.265), resolution, frame rate and bitrate for analytics accuracy.
• Run site surveys and camera audits: placement, field of view, lighting and coverage gaps that affect detection quality.
• Integrate alerts and metadata back into the customer's VMS, PSIM or command-center workflows so operators act on them in the tools they already use.
• Commission and validate each deployment against acceptance criteria, then hand off with clear as-built documentation.
Networking
• Design and troubleshoot the networks that carry video: VLAN segmentation, PoE budgets, multicast (IGMP snooping, PIM), QoS and bandwidth planning for high camera counts.
• Work with customer IT on firewall rules, routing, VPN or site-to-site links, and segregation between video, analytics and management networks.
• Diagnose stream loss, latency, jitter and packet drops using Wireshark, switch logs and VMS diagnostics.
Platform deployment and support (secondary)
• Install and maintain on-prem and edge GPU servers running our inference services: Linux, NVIDIA drivers and CUDA, Docker, and lightweight Kubernetes (K3s or similar) where used.
• Deploy releases with our packaged installers and runbooks, including offline updates for air-gapped sites.
• Monitor deployed systems with our observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana) and own field-level incident response: triage, escalation to engineering, and clear postmortem notes.
Security and compliance
• Apply CJIS Security Policy and customer controls on site: least-privilege access, encryption in transit, audit logging and secure handling of video evidence.
• Keep data segregation boundaries intact across camera, analytics and customer networks.
Customer partnership
• Act as the technical face of the company on site: train operators and admins, translate field issues into actionable bug reports, and push back when a configuration would compromise security or reliability.
WHAT WE VALUE
• 5+ years as a field, systems or integration engineer in physical security, video surveillance or a closely related area.
• Hands-on experience deploying and administering at least one enterprise VMS (Genetec, Milestone, Avigilon or equivalent), including large camera counts and multi-site setups.
• Strong IP video fundamentals: RTSP, ONVIF, H.264/H.265, stream profiles, storage and retention planning.
• Solid networking skills: TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE, multicast, QoS, firewalls and routing; comfortable configuring enterprise switches (Cisco, Aruba, Juniper or similar).
• Working Linux administration skills and comfort with Docker; exposure to Kubernetes is helpful but deep expertise is not required.
• Scripting in Python or Bash for automation, diagnostics and integration glue.
• Experience working in secure or regulated customer environments, and the judgment to follow controls without slowing the customer down.
• Clear communicator who can work directly with facility operators, IT staff and engineering teams.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites (approximately 40–60%, to be confirmed).
NICE TO HAVE
• Manufacturer certifications: Genetec (STC/STE), Milestone (MCDE/MCIE), Axis (ACE), Avigilon, or Cisco CCNA/CCNP.
• Experience integrating video analytics, LPR, facial recognition or AI detection with VMS platforms.
• Experience with access control, intercom or PSIM integrations alongside video.
• Exposure to air-gapped or offline deployments, signed artifacts and dependency mirroring.
• Background supporting corrections, law enforcement, intelligence or defense customers.
• Familiarity with CJIS Security Policy, NIST 800-53 / 800-171 or 28 CFR Part 23.
• Active or recent security clearance, or the ability to pass a CJIS background check.
HOW WE THINK ABOUT THIS WORK
In a correctional facility or command center, a dropped camera feed or a silent analytics failure isn't just a support ticket. It can leave staff without visibility during an incident, or break an evidence trail when it matters most. We expect rigor in the field: changes are planned and reversible, access is least-privilege, and every action touching sensitive video or data is logged.
We also expect honesty. If detection quality drops because of a camera angle, a codec setting or a network bottleneck, we want it found and fixed, not worked around. People who treat reliability, security and the customer's trust as core parts of the job will thrive here.
