Firearms Sales Associate in Hialeah, Florida at Lou's Police Distributors, Inc.
Job Description
Lou's Police Distributors has been in business in Hialeah since 1954 and has served Florida law enforcement for decades. Veteran-led, we supply firearms, ammunition, body armor, uniforms and duty gear to hundreds of agencies, thousands of individual officers, and the public. Our customers protect our families, our communities and our schools. Your mission demands readiness. Delivering it is ours. We are an FFL holder, ITAR and export licensed, and ATF compliant, and we are investing in technology and people to build a company that scales.
Job Summary
The Firearms Sales Associate sells firearms, ammunition, optics, lights, holsters and accessories on LPD's retail floor to law enforcement officers and civilian customers. You put the customer in the right product, sell the complete setup, and process every transaction under our compliance procedure the same way, every time.
This job has two standards and they never conflict. The first is to sell well: ask questions, recommend, ask for the sale, and protect margin by selling value instead of dropping price. The second is to do every transfer right: no shortcuts on any form, for any customer, ever. Nobody here gets in trouble for stopping a sale that doesn't feel right.
What This Job Is, Plainly
· An associate seat on the sales floor. It reports to the Manager, Firearms Sales. It is not a lead, key-holder or assistant manager role, and no promotion or title change is promised at hire. People who perform here get considered for more; that comes later, in writing, if it comes.
· Six days, Saturdays every week. The store is open 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, six days a week. Saturday is our busiest day and everyone on the floor works it. The manager sets the schedule weekly; specific days off are not guaranteed at hire.
· Paid for performance. Hourly base plus a monthly commission on the gross profit you sell. A slow month on the floor shows up in your check, and so does a strong one.
· Systems from day one. Every sale, quote, special order and follow-up lives in our ERP and point-of-sale system. Within 30 days you run it without help. If that sounds like a burden, this is not the right job.
Key Responsibilities
· Sell the right product. Ask about use, experience and budget before anything goes on the counter. Explain options in plain words. Sell the complete setup: holster, light, ammunition, safe storage and training.
· Serve officers and civilians. Know what changes for an officer (agency policy, approved models, duty compatibility, LPD's officer verification procedure) and what never changes (the paperwork and the checks).
· Close and protect margin. Ask for the sale out loud. Trade value, not dollars. Follow LPD's discount rules and bring exceptions to the manager.
· Compliance on every transfer. Complete ATF Form 4473 and the background check exactly per LPD procedure, and make sure every acquisition and disposition is recorded in our electronic bound book. Stop the sale and get the manager on any red flag. Report your own paperwork errors right away. LPD's compliance team sets the rules; you follow them every time.
· Ring it right. Process every sale, deposit, return and payment in the point-of-sale system per LPD procedure. Your drawer balances at close.
· Buy, sell and trade. Evaluate used firearms and process trade-ins, including trade-ins taken as store credit, per LPD's trade-in process. Nothing comes in the door without the paperwork.
· Write it down and follow up. Quotes, sales orders, special orders and customer notes go into our ERP, clear enough that purchasing can act without calling you. Work your follow-up list daily and close your callbacks and special-order updates on time, to the activity standard every LPD employee is measured on.
· Keep the floor ready. Displays, cases and stock organized and showroom-ready every day.
· Use the tools. Our ERP, Microsoft 365, Teams and the AI tools LPD provides are used properly every day. We will train you. We will not work around you.
Qualifications
· Age 21 or older, as required by federal law for handgun sales.
· Able to pass LPD's background check, completed with your written authorization after a conditional offer, and legally eligible under federal and Florida law to possess and handle firearms and ammunition under LPD's Federal Firearms License.
· Firearms retail counter experience, or a strong retail sales record and real firearms knowledge.
· Safe and confident firearms handling.
· Comfortable with computers and a POS or ERP system.
· Reliable attendance in a six-day operation, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, including every Saturday.
· Able to read, write and speak English well enough to complete federal forms accurately and explain them to customers.
Preferred Skills
· Spanish fluency. Many of our customers prefer it.
· Active Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License.
· Experience with an electronic bound book (A&D) system.
· Buy, sell and trade experience.
· Glock, duty and law enforcement product knowledge.
· Prior military or law enforcement service, NRA instructor or manufacturer armorer certifications.
What Success Looks Like
· 30 days: Running sales in our ERP and POS without help. Knows LPD's compliance procedure cold and follows it on every transfer. Knows the officer verification process.
· 60 days: Selling complete setups, not single items. Special order notes that purchasing acts on without a call. Follow-up list current every day. Holding price and bringing exceptions to the manager.
· 90 days: A full producer on the floor. Customers asking for you by name. Zero compliance errors you did not catch and report yourself.
How We Work: The LPD Principles
Seven principles define how we work at LPD. We hire to them, coach to them and promote against them. They apply to every person in every role, from the sales floor to the President.
· Integrity - Do the right thing, every time, especially when nobody is watching.
· Customer First - The customer comes first in every decision we make.
· Ownership - Own the outcome, not just the task.
· Figure It Out - Solve it, and write down how so the next person doesn't have to.
· Say the Hard Thing - Disagree in the room, commit outside it, never in the parking lot.
· Get Better - Keep growing. Tenure is not a substitute for performance.
· Use the Tools - The tools are not optional. We will train you. We will not work around you.
What We're Looking For
A career-builder who takes ownership, drives results, and wants to grow with a company that serves a critical mission. We operate with urgency, accountability, and high standards. If you thrive in an environment where your work directly impacts the business, where leadership is accessible and expectations are clear, and where continuous improvement is the culture and not just a buzzword, this is the role for you.
Pay and Benefits
Pay: $19 to $20 per hour, plus monthly commission on gross profit. Non-exempt; overtime is paid per federal and Florida law.
Benefits: medical, dental and vision; 401(k) with company match; PTO per the LPD handbook; employee purchase program subject to company policy and, for firearms, the same 4473 and background check process as any other sale.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
On-site in Hialeah, Florida. Six-day retail operation, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM; the Manager, Firearms Sales sets the weekly schedule and everyone works Saturdays. Requires standing for a full shift, lifting up to 35 pounds, and safe handling of firearms and ammunition. Reasonable accommodations will be considered for qualified individuals with disabilities.
