Occupational Therapist – RWJBarnabas Health
At RWJBarnabas Health, the Occupational Therapist plays a critical role in helping patients regain independence and maximize functional performance throughout the acute care setting. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, case managers, and interdisciplinary care teams, they evaluate patients, develop individualized treatment plans, and provide evidence-based interventions to support recovery and improve quality of life.
A typical day for an Occupational Therapist may include:
- Evaluates patients and develops individualized treatment plans based on functional needs and clinical presentation
- Provides occupational therapy interventions to patients in the acute care hospital setting
- Collaborates with physicians, nurses, case managers, and interdisciplinary care teams to coordinate patient care
- Educates patients and families on therapeutic techniques, adaptive equipment, and strategies to maximize independence
- Documents evaluations, treatment plans, patient progress, and discharge recommendations in accordance with organizational standards
- Assesses patient progress and modifies treatment plans to achieve optimal functional outcomes
- Treats patients across a variety of clinical specialties including orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, cardiac, critical care, trauma, general medicine, telemetry, emergency medicine, and pediatrics
- Recommends appropriate adaptive equipment and discharge needs to support a safe transition of care
- Maintains compliance with departmental policies, regulatory standards, and professional practice guidelines
- Promotes a safe, patient-centered environment while delivering high-quality rehabilitative care

To be considered for this Occupational Therapist opportunity:
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program at the baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate level required
- New Jersey Occupational Therapist license required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required
- Acute care hospital experience or strong acute rehabilitation experience required
- Active membership in a professional occupational therapy organization preferred
- Ability to work a full-time day shift schedule, including weekend and holiday rotations
